Martin Scorsese is renowned for making movies about larger-than-life characters with sky-high aspirations quickly rising to the top, before it all comes crashing down. He delivered that formula perfectly with two of his best and most lauded movies, Goodfellas and Raging Bull. However, what do you get when you mix that formula with Leonardo DiCaprio, a bunch of narcotics, the 1980s, and an average of 2.81 f-bombs per minute? The Wolf of Wall Street. If you want to witness Scorsese’s incredible cautionary tale about greed and excess for the first time (or 13th time, if you’re one of those “alphas” who misunderstands the point of the film), then we’ve got good news, because it just landed a new streaming home.
The Wolf of Wall Street is now streaming on Paramount+. The film tells the real story of Jordan Belfort, a former Wall Street stock trader who started his own firm, Straton Oakmont, with a ridiculous commission rate and no moral limitations. Written by Terence Winter (who adapted it from Belfort’s own biography of the same name), The Wolf of Wall Street stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Belfort. Alongside him, the film also stars Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, Jon Favreau, Cristin Milioti, Kenneth Choi, and P.J. Byrne, with a breakout performance from Margot Robbie.
The Wolf of Wall Street is Scorsese’s fifth highest-grossing movie to date, with The Departed claiming the top spot. The film grossed $117 million at the worldwide box office. It also impressed most critics, earning a 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but some were put off by Scorsese’s no-holds-barred depiction of greed and excess, which includes copious drug use, orgies, and everything in between. Despite this, the film is currently the 129th greatest movie of all time, according to IMDb’s ranking. The official synopsis reads:
“Introduced to life in the fast lane through stockbroking, Jordan Belfort takes a hit after a Wall Street crash. He teams up with Donnie Azoff, cheating his way to the top as his relationships slide.”
What’s Next for Martin Scorsese?
Scorsese is one of those rare directors who can sell a movie on his name alone. Much like Quentin Tarantino, fans wait on tenterhooks, desperate to know what Scorsese’s next film will be. Although, unlike Tarantino, he won’t be stopping at 11 movies (in fact, he blew way clear of that limit decades ago). But Scorsese isn’t content with having just one movie in the biopic. On a never-ending quest to stay busy, the director’s upcoming workload is packed with potential future classics.

Why Margot Robbie Insisted on Baring Everything in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’
Margot Robbie has revealed why she insisted to Martin Scorsese that she should not cover up for her breakout role.
Scorsese is expected to team up with DiCaprio again for The Wager, based on the novel, The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder, by David Grann. Then, there’s yet another film about the life of Jesus Christ, and the long-gestating Frank Sinatra biopic to boot. If that wasn’t enough, Scorsese could also be directing an adaptation of Marilynne Robinson’s novel Home. It is unclear which project Scorsese is prioritizing next. Considering how busy he’s been over the past few years, there’s always the chance it’s all three at once.
