Netflix has once again been picking up the canceled shows of other streaming platforms, this time taking on the animated series Scavengers Reign. The series debuted on Max in October 2023, but despite holding a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, with an equally impressive 94% audience score, the show was canceled by Max last month. However, Netflix have wasted no time in swooping to pick up the distribution rights to the story of the crew of an interstellar freighter ship stranded on a dangerous planet.
After its cancelation by Max in May 2024, fans of the series were understandably unimpressed with the decision. Now it looks like Netflix are playing the savior knight once again, and as well as bringing the first season to the platform, the news has sparked hope of a second series moving ahead. In truth, though, that will probably be reliant on how successful the existing season proves to be in its new home.
Scavengers Reign is co-created by Joseph Bennett, Sean Buckelew, and James Merrill, who along with supervising director Benjy Brooke shared their excitement about the show’s switch to Netflix. In a statement, they said:
“We are beyond thrilled that Scavengers Reign will be joining the incredible animation lineup on Netflix. We’re immensely grateful to everyone who has watched the show already and to Netflix for giving it an opportunity to be discovered by a wider audience.”
Fans Can Now Make Scavengers Reign Season 2 a Reality
Despite frequently grabbing the headlines for “falling behind” in the streaming game, Netflix has become the place to be seen for many canceled shows and box office misfires. The platform has been responsible for several high profile “saves,” such as the creation of additional seasons of Lucifer and Manifest. The streamer has also brought new audiences to older shows, including Young Sheldon and Suits, which both scored huge viewing numbers despite having previously appeared on other platforms.
Since its debut on Netflix, Scavengers Reign has generated plenty of reactions online from fans, which in turn has reignited calls for Season 2 to be given the green light. Those who have already seen the show have returned to watch it again in its new home, and others have urged new audiences to dip into the series and give it a try.

The series is currently still streaming on Max, but all eyes are currently now on how the show performs in the coming weeks on Netflix. Fans were probably disappointed not to see any mention of the series’ potential continuation as part of the streaming platform’s new Next on Netflix Animation preview, which revealed details about upcoming projects like the new Wallace and Gromit film, Terminator Zero, and a new Hotel Transylvania spin-off.
For now, fans just seem to be happy to see Scavengers Reign joining the Netflix family, but thoughts of that elusive Season 2 renewal will not be too far from their minds. With its critical acclaim and growing fan base, Scavengers Reign has given itself the best chance of a continuation, and all fans can do is wait for Netflix’s decision about its future.
