Netflix Orders Bad Crimes Series From King Of The Hill Creators

Mike Judge and Greg Daniels have big ambitions for their new animation company, and Bad Crimes is their second production to be greenlit.

Netflix has snapped up a new animated comedy series from the creators of King of The Hill and the US version of The Office called Bad Crimes. Creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels have come up with the concept. Having collaborated previously to develop the phenomenally successful King of The Hill, Netflix will have high hopes for the project. Away from animated TV shows, Daniels has worked on Saturday Night Live and was responsible for adapting the Ricky Gervais sitcom The Office for its US version, while Judge was the co-creator of The Goode Family and Silicon Valley, as well as the classic Beavis and Butt-Head.

Bad Crimes is the second show to come from the duo’s company, Bandera, and they have many other projects already in the works to follow it. It has been a quarter of a century since Daniels and Judge brought King of The Hill to screens, and after reuniting to launch their own animation company it seems that Bad Crimes is only the tip of the iceberg, as the pair want to branch out into live-action productions as well eventually.

According to the details of the show, Bad Crimes is an “adult animation, dark comedy procedural,” which is the type of currently popular programming that are doing very well across several streaming platforms. The series will star Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus, who play Kara and Jennie respectively, a pair of FBI agents who solve a series of gory crimes across the country as they attempt to keep their friendships and career aspirations in check, while juggling as many men as possible in the process. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Daniels said, “We were very excited to go into different tones and different styles and try to expand the animation art form. We’re in a golden age for content, right? That’s animation, too. That was one of the things we were talking about in founding the company: ‘Let’s push animation into all these different genres.’”

Bad Crimes Will Be One Of Many Projects Coming From Bandera, Which Includes A King Of The Hill Revival

Fox

Netflix has officially picked up a 10 episode run of Bad Crimes, and it becomes the second green-lit show for the new company after Praise Petey, which was given the go-ahead last month. Although they have not provided too much information on the other projects heading out of the company, Judge did mention some of the names who they are working with. This includes Sacha Baron Cohen, who will be working on “a very funny children’s show”, Silicon Valley regular Zach Woods, Jimmy O’Yang, who worked on Daniels’ Space Force, and of course the cast of King of The Hill who will be returning for all new episodes of the show.

Mike Judge also has the Comedy Central revival of Beavis and Butt-Head in the works, which predates the establishment of Bandera, but Judge did say that show is an example of “the type of risk-taking the company wants to do with animation.” For fans of this type of animated programming, news of what Daniels and Judge have planned will be very welcome indeed.
