New Blood Trailer Arrives, Title and Release Date Slashes in from Comic-Con

Lots of news for Dexter fans has been coming out of [email protected] including a new trailer providing a sneak peek at what’s to come. Also revealed by Showtime is the revival’s official title, which has been dubbed Dexter: New Blood. We finally have an official release date to attach to the revival as well as it’s been officially announced that it will premiere on Nov. 7 on Showtime.

The [email protected] trailer, which has since been released to YouTube, shows plenty of new footage of Michael C. Hall back in his role as our favorite serial killer. It also gives us a first look at Clancy Brown as the new villain along with some of the show’s other characters. Also made clear in the video is that while some things others, others stay the same for Dexter Morgan. Ahead of the revival’s premiere on Showtime in November, you can watch the new trailer below.

Along with Hall and Brown, Dexter: New Blood stars Julia Jones (The Mandalorian), Alano Miller (Sylvie’s Love), Johnny Sequoyah (Believe), and Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird). Characters from the past will also be returning, such as Jennifer Carpenter as Dexter’s sister Debra and John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer. Lithgow has suggested that his appearance will be very brief, likely for a flashback sequence, and the same will probably be true for Carpenter.

“I learned that it’s completely different from [the original series],” Lithgow recently told Deadline about the revival. “Kind of like Perry Mason, it’s a reimagination. They don’t take it into a different era, but it’s in a different part of the world, a different part of the country, and a whole new cast of characters… there are all sorts of wonderful surprises and callbacks from the first few seasons.”

He added: “We saw the end of the Trinity Killer so that by definition means [my cameo is] a flashback… It was just wonderful to rejoin that gang – including Michael and Jennifer Carpenter and [showrunner] Clyde Phillips.”

The original Dexter series ran for eight seasons on Showtime before coming to a controversial ending. Many fans felt unsatisfied with how the story ended, and that is one of the reasons Michael C. Hall agreed to reprise the role for Showtime’s revival series. As of now, the plan is for the revival to be a limited series that will give the story a proper conclusion that fans felt they didn’t get the first time around.

“The chance to revisit it and, in the process, redefine the sense of the show’s ending and the sense of the show’s legacy was certainly part of our motivation,” Hall said at the [email protected] panel. Dexter: New Blood is scheduled to premiere on Showtime on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
