Powerpuff First Official Look at Blossum, Bubbles & Buttercup in The CW’s Live-Action Reboot

The CW has revealed the official first look at Powerpuff, the upcoming live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls. Recently, some photos and images taken from the set provided a sneak peek at the three lead characters with filming on the series now underway. Now, the network has gone the extra step of providing an official reveal of the characters, showing off Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup. You can take a look below.

While Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are all grown up and wearing their adult outfits, the three have maintained their preferred color scheme from their crimefighting days. In the new show, the three former superheroes are now “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?”

Also joining Bennet, Cameron, and Perrault in the cast is Scrubs star Donald Faison as their father and creator, Professor Utonium. The cast also includes Nicholas Podany as Jojo Mondel, Robyn Lively as Sara Bellum, and Tom Kenny reprising his role as the narrator. It seems likely that additional characters from the original cartoon series will also be making special appearances.

Powerpuff is produced by Berlanti Productions and Vita Vera Films in association with Warner Bros. TV. Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier are writing and executive producing with Maggie Kiley directing. Also exec producing are Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and Kiley. Erika Kennair will produce.

The original Cartoon Network animated series was created by Craig McCracken, who won’t be involved in the upcoming live-action reboot. Still, McCracken admits that he’s intrigued by the concept and will be checking out the series to see how it turns out. In an interview with Syfy in January, McCracken detailed his thoughts on the Powerpuff series.

“I kind of found out that they were considering doing that like a year ago, and that’s all I know about it. Yeah, I’m not part of that production in any way,” McCracken said. “It’s one of these things where I don’t own those characters [they] are owned by…well, I don’t even know who owns it now because of the Warner Bros. / AT&T merger. It’s one of those companies that owns the rights, so they can do what they want with it.”

He then added: “I’m curious to see what they do with it. The initial concept of Powerpuff Girls was the idea that they were little kids being superheroes, so the fact that they’re making them grow up, that sort of changes that initial concept. But we’ll see what they do with it.”

As of now, Powerpuff hasn’t been given a premiere date. News of the reboot and the first look images have brought about a variety of mixed opinions from fans of the series, but in any case, as McCracken believes, it’s going to be interesting to see how the project turns out exactly. The first official look at Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup comes to us from The CW.
