A natural performer, Turner impressed fans and critics over the course of the series with Sansa’s character arc allowing for the actress to show her impressive range. Despite controversy over the show’s finale, Turner’s acting has been widely praised because of the show.

Antonio Campos (Christine) directs six of the show’s eight episodes and is co-writing with Maggie Cohn (American Crime Story). Per the logline, The Staircase will follow “the life of Michael Peterson (Firth), his sprawling North Carolina family and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen (Collette).” Campos and Cohn also executive produce with Annpurna Televsion and HBO Max producing.
The story of Michael Peterson was previously made into the acclaimed documentaryThe Staircase from director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade. It delves into the complicated story of Peterson, a crime novelist charged with the murder of his wife after her body was found at the bottom of a staircase in their home. Though he was eventually convicted after an arduous legal battle, he was later released when his charge was reduced to manslaughter. His adopted daughter, Margaret (Turner), is convinced that he is innocent.
It was expected that Sophie Turner would be landing more interesting lead roles soon enough. She’s become an international celebrity due to her role on Game of Thrones. Though her character Sansa started out the series as one of its weaker characters, she’d become one of its strongest and most popular fan favorites by the series finale. Many fans consider her character’s journey to be one of the show’s brightest spots.
Turner is also known for playing a young Jean Grey in the X-Men movie series. She most recently starred in the 2019 installment Dark Phoenix, but as the movie series was brought to an end with Disney’s acquisition of Fox, Turner is now finished with that role. More recently, she picked up a voice role in the upcoming animated series The Prince, which is also in development for HBO Max. The series follows a six-year-old Prince George and Turner willl be starring as the voice of Princess Charlotte.
The Staircase doesn’t yet have a release date set for HBO Max. In the meantime, fans can check out Turner’s acclaimed performance as Sansa Stark in every episode of Game of Thrones that’s also available on the streamer. This news comes to us from Deadline.
