One of the stars of the upcoming Disney+ series has recently confirmed that Star Wars Andor will have a second season. While Star Wars fans wait for the arrival of the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming this May, the series next in line is Star Wars Andor. Tony Gilroy’s prequel to Rogue One will see the return of Diego Luna as the rebel spy Cassian Andor. The upcoming series has been in the works for quite some time due to several delays. During a recent interview with the Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, actor Stellan Skarsgard revealed himself that Andor has already been renewed for a second season at Disney+.
“We start with Dune 2 in July. And then in the autumn, it’s time for the second season of the Star Wars series Andor. I do not know when they will start broadcasting it. It will take some time, so that it does not take too long between season one and season two.”
While Skarsgard did confirm that Andor has already been renewed for season 2, he still isn’t sure when the show’s first season will debut. With Star Wars Andor now confirmed to begin production for its second season this fall, fans can expect season 2 to premiere sometime in 2023. Not only did Skarsgard confirm that Andor will have more than one season, but he also revealed that Dune: Part Two is set to begin filming this July. Back in September 2021, Skarsgard also confirmed that Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera would return in the upcoming series.

Star Wars Andor, Explained
Star Wars: Andor is an upcoming American television series created by Tony Gilroy. The series will serve as a prequel to Rogue One, which was released in 2016. Star Wars: Andor will follow the character Cassian Andor, taking place five years before the events of the original film. While Diego Luna is reprising his Rogue One character, he is also serving as an executive producer for the prequel series. Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly are also set to star in the upcoming series.
Lucasfilm had initially announced the new Star Wars series that will be focused on Andor back in November 2018. Diego Luna was already attached with Stephen Schiff hired as the showrunner. Stephen Schiff was then later replaced by Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy as creator and showrunner in April 2020. Filming for Star Wars: Andor began at the end of November 2020, with Tony Gilroy unable to direct as planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming took place mainly at Pinewood Studios, London, and on location around England and Scotland.
Although there still isn’t an official release date as of yet, Star Wars: Andor is expected to debut sometime in late 2022. The series was originally expected to debut in 2021, before production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first season will consist of a total of 12 episodes and will premiere on Disney+.
