Ahead of season 3, The Boys team has been hyping the next season with these Vought News Network (VNN) videos online. The idea is to help bridge the gap between the two seasons, as the parody news segments provide details on different characters and events from the streaming series. These videos are in the vein of nightly news programs seen on CNN and Fox News.

In particular, there has been immense fan excitement for Jensen Ackles to arrive in season 3 as Soldier Boy. This follows the popular actor’s 15-season run on Supernatural, and during production, the actor had been teasing his arrival with sneak peek photos for fans. Amazon has since released full photos of Ackles in character as Soldier Boy, a character who basically serves as The Boys’ version of Captain America.
Soldier Boy is a part of a superhero group called Payback in the original comic books. The character is also depicted on the printed page as bumbling and cowardly, seemingly of no real threat to the other Supes. Showrunner Eric Kripke and Ackles are taking a different approach with the live-action version of Soldier Boy, who Kripke has described as the “John Wayne” of superheroes in this world. He’s been around long before Homelander as one of America’s very first working superheroes.
“Season 3 delves a lot more into the history of how we got here through this character of Soldier Boy,” Kripke told Vanity Fair. “We were able to dig into both the history of the country and also really look at toxic masculinity, and masculine roles, and what a shit-show that’s overall caused. This whole f**king, independent Marlboro man thing.”
The Boys will return with its three-part season 3 premiere on June 3, 2022. For now, fans can bo back and watch the first two seasons streaming on Prime Video. Chances are the third season will be pulling in high viewership, as the acclaim and continued popularity of the series have been driving more interest into the third season with Jensen Ackles’ arrival.
