Netflix’s hit TV Show, The Umbrella Academy, is coming to an end, and the actors are weighing in on their bittersweet goodbyes. Stars Elliot Page, Emma Raver-Lampman, David Castañeda, and Robert Sheehan are some of the actors reflecting on their time on the show, their heartfelt goodbyes, and what to expect in the upcoming final season.
Speaking to Variety, one of the stars, Elliot Page, who has played Victor Hargreeves for all four seasons, says the goodbye following the cut was “odd,” and it didn’t really hit him until later. He has a lot of gratitude for having played Victor and hopes the audience enjoys the final season.
“To say goodbye to the cast and crew we’ve worked with for years and years,
it’s definitely hard. You really become very familial
… I’m just hoping it gives the emotions, and the humor and the weirdness that people have come to expect.”
David Castañeda, who plays Diego Hargreeves also had an emotional response, but said he’s “bad at goodbyes.” He said the ending hadn’t hit him in the last few weeks of filming, but he’s sure it will as it progresses, and he appreciates that. Castañeda also said, “We want to stay a little bit longer, you know?”
Emma Raver-Lampman, who plays Alison Hargreeves, also said that the end hasn’t really hit her yet. She added that it’s never really a goodbye when the people she worked with will be in her life forever. She’s grateful for this show bringing them together and is excited for fans to see the upcoming season, as it continues its streak of uniqueness following the Hargreeves family’s continued adventures.
“I think
we have so many beautiful fans because our show represents what the world looks like
, and the representation that our show has is unbelievable and so special and so unique.”
Robert Sheehan, who plays Victor Hargreeves, said he doesn’t feel like he’s bidding a final farewell to the series. Whereas everyone else was emotional, it felt very procedural for him, and when they filmed, they never really trusted them when the producers said, “It’s the last thing ever.”
“We kind of go, ‘No it’s not, there’s going to be several more phases of production that I’ll be involved with.’ So
I’m gonna hold back on the sentimentality for now
.”
