Created and written by Mike White, The White Lotus is a seasonal anthology following various rich families at the prestigious White Lotus hotels across the world. Season 1 flew audiences to Hawaii, while Season 2 took viewers on a romantic getaway to Italy, and Season 3 is taking the show to Thailand.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Carrie Coon discussed working with Mike White on the show’s upcoming third season and teased the themes the show will explore next.
“He’s really speaking to people who need to be spoken to in a really interesting way. He had a season about money; he had a season about sex. And this is his season about death. So here we are in this Buddhist country.”

Coon said she can’t discuss any direct plot details, joking “I’ve signed an NDA.” But she had nothing but praise for Mike White, and his phenomenal casting ability.
“You guys all know who’s cast, so I think that’s safe territory. Mike is really brilliant at casting. He sometimes will put together actors who have very different styles and approaches, and yet he’s very good at taking care of everybody because he’s an actor himself. He’s very funny, and he’s a very smart director, and he gives excellent direction and I adore him. He doesn’t approach everybody the same, you know? It’s not just Mike coming at you as Mike. Mike is very sensitive to where actors are in their process.”
The White Lotus Season 3 Features an Incredible Cast
Ahead of its 2025 release date, the brilliant cast for The White Lotus Season 3 has already been announced. The biggest surprise is that Natasha Rothwell will be reprising her role as Belinda Lindsey, who worked at the White Lotus: Hawaii in Season 1. So far, Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid-Hunt was the only character who had returned for a second season, although she won’t be returning for any more following her unexpected death in Season 2. Joining Carrie Coon as the other newcomers to the series are Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Parker Posey, Dom Hetrakul, and Tayme Thapthimthong – all of who are confirmed to have leading roles in Season 3. Alongside them is an outstanding supporting cast, including Walton Goggins, Iris Apatow, Amy Lou Wood, Sam Nivola, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Christian Freidel, Scott Glenn, and many more – although their roles are currently undisclosed.

First debuting on HBO in 2021, The White Lotus quickly became one of the network’s most beloved shows. In just two seasons, the show has earned 15 Primetime Emmys, with many more nominations. Through its hilarious and sarcastic character-based comedy, The White Lotus is a biting satire of the wealthy elite. In the interview, Coon commented on how Mike White plays these aspects and themes against each other, and said she hopes he’s allowed to do so well in to the future.
“It’s a huge cast. It’s an international cast. And I think he’s playing with some really interesting dynamics. I think it’s something he would continue to do if they let him, because I think he would like to get bigger and more international and put together weirder groups of people—that’s what he’s passionate about. And I think that’s important in this world, to see people banging up against each other in this way. Of course, he’s satirizing rich white people, and he’s doing it very well.”
Season 3 of The White Lotus was originally set to release in 2024. However, HBO’s CEO, Casey Bloys, announced in November 2023 that the new season had been pushed back to 2025. No specific release date has been confirmed.
