For better or for worse, The Witcher will continue on at Netflix after the loss of its lead star. It was recently announced that the show had been renewed for season 4 ahead of next year’s arrival of season 3, but the early renewal news also came with a major bombshell. After three seasons of playing Geralt of Rivia, Henry Cavill is exiting the series while Liam Hemsworth has been brought in to replace him in the role.
Big recastings like this seldom go down very well with the fans. Many feel that Cavill is too perfect as Geralt that no other actor will feel right as the character, especially after three seasons. With one viral tweet, one person suggests that Cavill was run off the series. It could be that Cavill will be too busy for The Witcher considering his return as Superman in the DCU, but this fan’s not so sure that’s the case.

The tweet reads: “henry cavill a leaving the witcher after begging netflix for the role and being the biggest fan of the franchise is making the report that the writers hate the books seem more and more plausible. they chased that man away from the series. this is sick.”
“Henry Cavill knew too much about the source material for the Witcher so Netflix got rid of him,” another well-liked tweet states.
Another Twitter user uses a clip from Breaking Bad of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) breaking down as his wife (Anna Gunn) begs for him to just hear her out. The tweet describes the clip as: “Netflix trying to convince the Witcher fan base that Liam Hemsworth is a good replacement for Henry Cavill.”
“Being a fan of the Witcher Netflix is scary cause you couldn’t possibly think things could get worse and then it does,” laments another fan.
Meanwhile, some people choose to have fun with the whole thing. The digital artist BossLogic has been posting some artwork of Cavill in different shows, imagining how he might appear in a series like House of the Dragon or a Mass Effect film now that he’s schedule is a bit more open.

The Witcher Moves Forward With Liam Hemsworth

Clearly, many fans are not thrilled about Liam Hemsworth joining The Witcher, but others are curious to see how this turns out. Hemsworth posted a statement about joining the show to Instagram and the post has been liked nearly 600,000 times as of this writing. The actor also expressed his excitement about getting cast as Geralt as he’s a big Witcher fan.
“As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” he said. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”
Hemsworth added, “Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.
