Vegas Star William Petersen Hospitalized After Feeling Ill On Set

William Petersen had a bit of a health scare on the set of his upcoming CSI spinoff series, culminating with a trip by ambulance to the hospital. Set to premiere in October on CBS, CSI: Vegas serves as a bit of a direct sequel series to the original CSI. The cast will introduce several new characters to the team of titular crime scene investigators, though it will be led by returning stars Petersen and Jorja Fox reprising their respective roles as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle.

Recently, the CSI: Vegas team had been filming an episode of the show when Petersen reportedly fell ill on the set. The star’s rep told TMZ that Petersen was working when he “started feeling terrible,” informing the director that he needed a break. At some point, it became clear that he needed “more than a rest” as an ambulance was called to take the actor to an L.A. hospital. The move was reportedly “mostly done out of an abundance of caution,” as the crew weren’t taking any chances.

Fortunately, it seems that the situation is not serious, as Petersen is now out of the hospital and said to be doing better. It’s not exactly clear what it was that led to his hospitalization, but Petersen’s rep says the dedicated actor has been working nonstop long days for the past 12 weeks. The belief is that this may be a case of overexertion or exhaustion. In any case, the good news is that Petersen appears to be fine.

The situation is reminiscent of Bob Odenkirk’s own health scare last month on the set of the AMC drama series Better Call Saul. During the shoot, Odenkirk had collapsed while filming a scene and was rushed to a local hospital in Albuquerque. The actor later revealed that he’d suffered a small heart attack but that he was going to be okay. Odenkirk also thanked the fans for their support, comparing the situation to his own It’s a Wonderful Life moment.

Created by Jason Tracey, CSI: Vegas is a sequel epilogue of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Over the years, CSI has seen many spinoffs set in other cities around the United States, but CSI: Vegas returns the franchise back to its roots with the original show’s setting. This allows Petersen to return as Grissom alongside Jorja Fox as Sara Sidle. Other stars also are featured to reprise their roles, such as Wallace Langham as David Hodges and Paul Guilfoyle as Jim Brass.

Meanwhile, the new cast members include Paula Newsome as Maxine Roby, head of the Vegas Crime Lab; Matt Lauria as Josh Folsom, as Level III CSI who typically serves as lead investigator; Mel Rodriguez as Hugo Ramirez, the Head Medical Examiner; and Mandeep Dhillon as Allie Rajan, a Level II CSI. There are bound to be some other surprises in store for the longtime CSI fans as well.

Best wishes to Petersen in feeling better after this recent situation with some much needed rest and relaxation. You can catch his return as Gil Grissom when CSI: Vegas premieres on CBS on Oct. 6, 2021. This news comes to us from TMZ.
