Virgin River Gets Renewed for Two More Seasons at Netflix

Netflix has officially confirmed that the popular romantic drama series Virgin River will return for at least two more years. This confirmation from Netflix comes just weeks after several rumors circulated with reports that season four of Virgin River was in fact moving forward. With the popular series making its return for two more seasons, Netflix has also confirmed to be making a commitment to produce more “comfort” content, USA Today reports.

Speaking about the comfort genre, Jinny Howe, Netflix’s VP of original series, told USA Today: “With everything that’s been going on in the world, people more and more are looking for, not just that comfort, but also that feeling of hope and that feeling of community. All of that really came together in a way that was really organic, and I think this was more of a proof point that this is a really vital area of programming for us.”

Martin Henderson, who plays US Marine veteran Jack Sheridan in the series, has even admitted that he and the cast couldn’t predict the success of the first two series. “We didn’t know whether a show like this would find a huge audience,” he stated. “I don’t think anybody anticipated it to have as wide of appeal as it did.” Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays nurse Mel Monroe, also credited the show’s “lovely sense of community”for the show’s success. “There is a sense of connection and intimacy that you have on the show that people crave in their own relationships,” she then added. “During the pandemic, you’re not experiencing that as much, and so that connection became something people were craving.”

Virgin River is an American romantic drama streaming television series exclusively on Netflix. The series is produced by Reel World Management, and is developed by Sue Tenney. Virgin River stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe as she follows her and her new life in the remote town of Virgin River in Northern California, after she moves there thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh, and leave her painful memories behind. But she soon discovers that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected. She must learn to heal herself before she can truly make Virgin River her home.

Virgin River stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe, Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, Colin Lawrence as Preacher Middleton, Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine Roberts, Annette O’Toole as Hope McCrea, Tim Matheson as Doc Mullins, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, Grayson Gurnsey as Ricky, Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie, Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan, Marco Grazzini as Mike Valenzuela. Based on Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name, Virgin River first made it debut back in December 2019. The second season went on to premiere in November 2020, then returning for its third and latest season in July 2021. The fourth season is expected to return with the same 10 episode pattern from the previous seasons.

With the series’ third season ending with some interesting cliffhangers, showrunner Sue Tenney stated that the Virgin River team is working on the much needed follow-ups, while explaining that they are planning to }”stick with the parameters, medically” they also want to push “complicated emotionally drama-based stories”. There are currently no further details pertaining the the official release date of Virgin River’s fourth season at this time. Fans of the popular romantic drama series can expect to see the series make its return sometime in early 2022. Virgin River seasons 1, 2, and 3 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
