Fans have waited a long time to see the return of Rick Grimes to the Walking Dead, and it looks like there is still a bit of a wait to go.
AMC
At one time, The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes movies were one of the most anticipated upcoming offerings from the franchise. Then they failed to materialize, and over time fans drifted from the series and the hope of actually getting any kind of conclusion to Rick’s story. However, this year brought the surprise reveal that Andrew Lincoln’s Rick will be getting his own Walking Dead spin-off series and will be joined by Danai Gurira’s Michonne. Now Gurira has given fans a clearer idea of when they will get to see the show air on AMC.
Having waited so long, it looks like the show will not arrive until the end of 2023. While being interviewed for the 20 Questions: On Deadline podcast, the actress explained that fans could expect to see the premiere episode around Halloween. She said:

“I think it’s late 2023. I think its somewhere in that region. Halloween, there, after. Somewhere there. That is the goal.”
While there had been no official confirmation of what order the upcoming Walking Dead spin-offs would be aired in, Gurira’s statement coincided with what the production schedules seemed to suggest. After waiting so long to see where Rick ended up and what will become of him, another year is not going to make much difference to those who still have an interest in the series.

The Walking Dead Spin-Offs Will Dominate AMC’s 2023 Schedule
AMC
Despite the flagship series ending last month, 2023 will make it feel like The Walking Dead is very much alive and kicking. Along with new seasons of existing spin-off shows, Fear The Walking Dead and Tales of The Walking Dead, there will be a total of three new series, each focusing on one or two central characters from the main show.
First up will be Dead City, a Negan and Maggie-centric show that will take the characters into the heart of a zombie-ridden New York, where they will face new threats from both the living and the dead. The first teaser trailer for the show promised a dark story for the two popular characters, and where their journey will lead them, or why they are there, is still to be revealed.
Following that, Norman Reedus will reprise his role in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Reedus’ character was last seen riding off at the end of The Walking Dead’s finale. From previous reports, it is known that his journey will take him to Europe, where his story is believed to intersect with the finale of the previous spin-off, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. There is a strong belief that this could tie into finding a way to end the zombie apocalypse, but exact details are yet to be revealed.
With Rick & Michonne set to begin filming in January, it will clearly be next year’s closing Walking Dead chapter. Whether it will also be part of the beginning of a new one is yet to be seen, but Walking Dead Universe chief content officer Scott Gimple has dropped plenty of hints that there is still more to come from The Walking Dead in the coming years.
