The best — and the rest — of the Golden Globes red carpet

The best — and the rest — of the Golden Globes red carpet

Another Golden Globes is in the books, and I — sitting on my couch in sweats — am still processing all the looks that came down the red carpet. (But don’t worry, I’m not quite as scathing as these kids.) This year, we got a lot of black and white, tons of sparkles, some racy details and men desperate to mix it up in the formal-wear department. Here’s what stood out …

Most outfit changes: Nikki Glaser

Nikki Glaser didn’t take her hosting duties for granted. She came prepared with both jokes and lots of outfits. The comedian hit the red carpet in a light pink ball gown before first taking the stage in a daring red dress with a high slit. Her third and fourth dresses featured some sparkle, before she tried on a Marty Supreme-inspired look. She went bold with her fifth dress, showing off a black lacy bra detail and then slipped into something fairly Frozen-inspired. Glaser’s final outfit? A formfitting black dress paired with a Spinal Tap baseball cap in honor of the late Rob Reiner.

Most naked: Jennifer Lawrence

There were a few revealing outfits that made their way across the carpet, but Jennifer Lawrence’s came out on top. The completely mesh dress from Givenchy featured cutouts and relied on strategically placed floral appliqués for coverage where it was needed.

Best bling: Colman Domingo

Colman Domingo loves to be the best dressed. He jazzed up a custom Valentino suit with diamond Boucheron leaf brooches cascading down his lapel like ivy. Simply stunning.

Best two-piece: Emma Stone

Oh, hello there, Emma Stone’s midriff. The Bugonia actress looked beautiful in a butter yellow Louis Vuitton look that showcased her toned abs — and, yes, belly button — clearly the result of some serious gym dedication.

Best his-and-hers tuxes: Ed Harris and Amy Madigan

After more than 40 years of marriage, actors Ed Harris and Amy Madigan (a nominee for Weapons) still know how to twin. The couple wore matching tuxes — Madigan pairing her Thom Browne version with Dena Kemp earrings — to celebrate the night.

Most au naturel: Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson has been on a roll with her makeup-free moments, and the Golden Globes were no exception. Her white ensemble and platinum hair pulled back into a French twist helped make the look appear effortless and oh so chic.

Precious plus-ones: Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku

There are babies on board for these two Sinners actresses. Attending the Globes without her NFL star husband, Josh Allen — who was busy leading the Buffalo Bills to victory — Hailee Steinfeld cradled her baby bump in a shimmering peach dress. Castmate Wunmi Mosaku used the moment to reveal her own pregnancy, sharing the news in an essay for Vogue.

Best made-you-look moment: Teyana Taylor

Having a bow detail on a red carpet gown isn’t exactly earth-shattering, unless it’s on Teyana Taylor, and it’s placed right above her butt. The actress, who took home a Golden Globe, was making headlines before the ceremony began after showing off the backside of her dress, which featured a cutout revealing a blinged-out bow thong.

Best bolo: Ethan Hawke

If you don’t want a classic bow tie, you make like Walton Goggins and Jesse Plemons and wear a western-style ribbon tie. And if you don’t want a ribbon tie, you go the Ethan Hawke route and grab a bolo. The Texas-born actor, a nominee for Blue Moon, gave his suit from The Row some Southwestern flair by adding a vintage bolo tie.

Most bridal: Ryan Michelle Bathe

Ryan Michelle Bathe and Sterling K. Brown will be celebrating 20 years of marriage this year, but Bathe was looking like a newlywed on Sunday’s red carpet. She was among a handful of women who looked like they recently said yes to the dress (ahem, Amanda Seyfried and Zuri Hall), but her strapless white gown, train and all, takes the cake.

Most classic: Ayo Edebiri

The Bear actress nailed yet another red carpet look — this time, going classic old Hollywood. She wore a Chanel black off-the-shoulder velvet gown with jewel details. But her blown-out bob hairstyle was the star of the show, styled with a perfectly swooped bang.

Most inspired by Stanley Tucci: John Krasinski

Is John Krasinski taking style cues from brother-in-law Stanley Tucci? The actor stepped out in a monochromatic black look featuring a turtleneck, a velvet suit jacket and glasses with a bold frame.

Cutest on the carpet: Duke McCloud

The 6-year-old All Her Fault actor might be new to the red carpet, but he’s already giving the vets a run for their money. Duke McCloud was wonderfully styled in a blue double-breasted suit with black-and-white brogues and an emerald lapel pin. And don’t miss the tiny pocket square — one of his favorite parts of the look!

Best boots: Timothée Chalamet

These boots are made for … winning? Wearing a custom, all-black Chrome Hearts ensemble, Marty Supreme actor Timothée Chalamet stepped onstage to accept his Golden Globe in black Timberlands. Paired with the buzz cut, it’s giving boot camp.

Best color: Janelle James

The Abbott Elementary actress was schooling everyone with her bright orange look by LaQuan Smith. — and protesting the oh-so-boring and off-white Pantone color of the year. “I said no,” James said on the red carpet. “Not today.”

Biggest black gowns: Ariana Grande and Aimee Lou Wood

Who needs a little black dress when you can go big and bold? Ariana Grande and Aimee Lou Wood had the same idea when they both arrived in dramatic dark gowns with off-the-shoulder necklines and accentuated hips. Great minds think alike!

Least expected metallic: Walton Goggins

Why go for a boring black suit when you can add a metallic flair? That’s the look Walton Goggins experimented with, wearing a shiny gold button-front shirt that was both daring and divisive.

Most gifted: Bella Ramsey

Bella Ramsey was fit to be tied at the show — literally. The Last of Us star’s sleek Prada suit got a touch of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes whimsy thanks to a giant hot pink sash wrapped around the top half. Not great for doing the “YMCA” but a surefire way to stand out.
