‘The Boys’ Star Jack Quaid Slams Sony’s Spider-Verse

‘The Boys’ Star Jack Quaid Slams Sony’s Spider-Verse

Sony’s Spider-Man Villain’s Universe wasn’t just the worst-named cinematic franchise of the 21st century; it was also one of the worst reviewed. The franchise includes Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy, as well as Morbius, the recently released Kraven the Hunter, and the infamous Madame Web. The franchise has received its fair share of hate online, with everyone from esteemed journalists to your grandpa asking what went wrong with Madame Web. Now, The Boys star Jack Quaid is piling onto the discourse in a hilarious new skit.

Most cinephiles know the Criterion Closet, the online video series where filmmakers and actors pick their favorite movies from the Criterion’s esteemed Blu-ray and 4k collection. But have you heard of The Movie Cabinet? Jack Quaid was the first guest in the new, totally not a knock-off interview series by Josh Horowitz, and his time in the cabinet just got weirder and weirder. The cabinet wasn’t filled with esteemed films; it contained bottom-of-the-bargain-bin movies, starting with the Jared Leto-led Morbius. “I’m sure there are some gems here,” Quaid said optimistically, pulling out the first DVD. “It’s… Morbius?” Quaid gave the film the most praise of anyone online, describing it as “a movie… by definition. I guess I’m putting that in the bag. ‘Morbin’ time.'”

His second pick made Morbius look like The Godfather, as he pulled out the 2024 flop, Madame Web. Jack Quaid also got further than most did with Madame Web, commenting, “I think I caught half of this on a plane, and then we landed.” Jack Quaid grabbed the ultimate Marvel collector’s item for his third pick. “Okay, this one is blank. No, it isn’t. It’s Kraven the Hunter (Bootleg Special).”

Jack Quaid Auditioned For Some Weird Movies

Jack Quaid, who currently stars in the AI horror movie Companion, has been in some major movies and franchises over his career. As well as The Boys, he’s also appeared in The Hunger Games, Scream, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and even Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. But, like many actors, there are countless roles that he missed out on, and the Movie Cabinet was there to remind him.

Sony could be introducing their own live-action version of Spider-Man.

“Okay, we got a non-Morbius film here. A Star Is Born. Fun fact: I actually auditioned for this,” Quaid jokingly revealed before giving viewers a rendition of “Shallow.” “She got it, obviously. She’s Lady Gaga.” The painful walk down memory lane didn’t stop there. “This is Green Book, another non-Morbius film. I auditioned for this, too. I came up with the whole putting the whole pizza in my mouth thing that Viggo [Mortinson] does. Obviously, he did it better.” It turns out Jack Quaid can’t even get roles in parodies of his own movies. “Oh my god! Yes! I was in this, I was in Opp- Oppenboner? The porn parody of Oppenheimer!? That I also auditioned for and didn’t get?!”

Jack Quaid might not have gotten those roles in this parody sketch, but he did nail the audition for Companion. The new movie also stars Sophie Thatcher, Megan Suri, Lukas Gage, Rupert Friend, and Harvey Guillén. Companion is currently showing in theaters. Oppenboner (hopefully) isn’t available to watch anywhere.
