The Hunting Party Could Pull a Manifest — And Melissa Roxburgh Has Seen This Story Before

The Hunting Party Could Pull a Manifest — And Melissa Roxburgh Has Seen This Story Before

It’s never easy when your favorite TV show gets canceled.

After spending years watching networks pull the plug on promising series far too soon, The Hunting Party ending after two seasons didn’t come as a huge surprise.

Despite landing a stronger lead-in from Law & Order: SVU, the drama never drew the audience NBC hoped for.

Still, its recent arrival on Netflix paints a much more interesting picture.

The series quickly climbed the platform’s charts, suggesting it may work far better as a binge-watch than a traditional weekly procedural.

When news of the cancellation spread online Tuesday evening, Deadline reported that the studio is already exploring options to shop the series elsewhere. Naturally, Netflix is part of that conversation.

What makes this situation especially fascinating is that Melissa Roxburgh has been through this exact scenario before.

Back in 2021, NBC canceled Manifest after three seasons despite the show’s passionate fanbase and ongoing mythology.

Fans refused to let it quietly disappear, and once the series hit Netflix, it exploded in popularity.

The Hunting Party Could Be Melissa Roxburgh’s Latest Show Saved by Netflix

For weeks, Manifest dominated the streamer’s charts and became one of the biggest TV success stories of the pandemic era.

The surge in popularity ultimately convinced Netflix to revive the series for a supersized fourth and final season, allowing the creative team to conclude the story properly.

TV shows rarely get a second chance, but there’s a genuine possibility that Melissa Roxburgh could become part of two Netflix rescue stories in a row.

Of course, any conversations about saving The Hunting Party are still in the early stages, and there’s already pressure behind the scenes because of cast options.

Once those deals expire, reassembling everyone becomes significantly harder.

Honestly, I can’t imagine fans would want a continuation that only brings back Roxburgh while losing the rest of the ensemble.

The chemistry between the cast was a huge part of what made the series work.

That means any potential deal would need to come together quickly because one delay or complication could shut the door on the show for good.

NBC also doesn’t exactly inspire confidence when it comes to supporting dramas outside the Law & Order and One Chicago universes.

Plenty of modern TV shows survive weaker live ratings because streaming and international viewing now matter just as much, if not more.

Just look at Grey’s Anatomy. Its live ratings are nowhere near what they once were, but the series continues thriving thanks to streaming and global interest.

Right now, the path forward for The Hunting Party feels pretty clear.

If fans really want the series to survive, they need to rally around it the same way Manifest fans did: binge it relentlessly on Netflix and prove the audience never disappeared in the first place.

There’s certainly no shortage of buzz surrounding The Hunting Party, and given that the series still had plenty of gas left in the tank when NBC canceled it, I genuinely believe there’s a path forward.

Netflix has already announced end dates for several of its biggest dramas, including Emily in Paris, The Lincoln Lawyer, and The Night Agent, meaning there could soon be room for another high-concept series to join the lineup.

The big question is whether Netflix actually wants to make a play for it.

The streamer has become just as notorious for canceling shows as saving them, but something about The Hunting Party feels like a natural fit for the platform.

It already operates on a shorter season model, with The Hunting Party Season 1 clocking in at just 10 episodes, making it a much easier pickup than many network dramas.

Over to you, The Hunting Party Fanatics.

Do you think Netflix should save the series, or was NBC right to pull the plug?
