The Invisible Raptor Trailer Teases Horror Comedy With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

What do you do when you haven’t got the budget to put a terrifying creature in your monster movie? Simple: you make it invisible. The Invisible Raptor is a new horror comedy from director Mike Hermosa, starring Sean Astin, Mike Capes, David Shackelford, Caitlin McHugh Stamos, Sandy Martin, Bobby Gilchrist, and more. The first trailer for The Invisible Raptor was recently released, and it looks just as bonkers as it sounds.

Like any good monster movie, you need look no further than the title to understand the movie’s premise. When a secret scientific facility performs experiments similar to those in Jurassic Park and The Invisible Man, they accidentally create a killer, invisible raptor. Thanks to the Jurassic franchise, Raptors have become one of the go-to creatures for dinosaur-based monster movies. If they weren’t terrifying enough in Spielberg’s classic, you won’t even see them coming in The Invisible Raptor.

A study from the Science of Scare project named the 2012 movie Sinister the scariest film of all time.

The official synopsis reads:

“After a top-secret experiment goes wrong, a hyper-intelligent invisible raptor escapes the lab and begins wreaking havoc in the surrounding neighborhood. When the creature’s identity is uncovered, it soon becomes clear that a disgraced paleontologist—alongside his ex-girlfriend, an unhinged amusement park security guard, and a local celebrity chicken farmer—is the town’s only hope for surviving the raptor’s ravenous rampage.”

From the first trailer, The Invisible Raptor promises to be a future cult-classic. It’s packed full of insanely quotable lines, like “hold on to your butthole,” which has already been thrown around the internet hundreds of times since the trailer’s debut. Additionally, the trailer also features the best scientific explanation of a creature in any movie ever made. While films like Godzilla go to great lengths to explain their monsters, The Invisible Raptor asks, “Have you ever watched Jurassic Park? We did that. Have you ever seen The Invisible Man?” — that’s the verbatim quote from the trailer.

The Invisible Raptor Has a Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

Wacky, monster-based horror comedies aren’t for everyone. The niche sub-genre has a devout cult following, but critics tend to overlook these B-movies, which aren’t given wide releases. However, the critics are in agreement about The Invisible Raptor as early reviews have granted the movie the rare perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. To be fair, it has only seven reviews so far, but with a 100% rating, The Invisible Raptor is technically higher rated than Citizen Kane (99%) according to the review aggregate site.

Joel Harley of Starbust probably puts it best, saying, “It’s the smart version of a stupid movie, while still being so very deeply stupid.” Ben Robins of (insert Goonies impression) HeyUGuys agrees that The Invisible Raptor rises above its silly namesake, and is a surprisingly well-made monster B-movie. They wrote:

“A joyously silly, sure-fire crowd-pleaser of an (invisible) monster movie, elevated above simple parody by careful direction, clever writing and an incredibly likeable cast.”

Unfortunately, The Invisible Raptor won’t be released in time for a Halloween viewing. However, you can shock your family with the weirdest Christmas movie night imaginable (even weirder than Jingle All the Way) as The Invisible Raptor releases in theaters and on digital in December.

The Invisible Raptor
hits select theaters and digital on Dec. 6.
