The Last of Us Season 2 Teaser Uses Limited but Powerful Dialogue

HBO released the first teaser for The Last of Us Season 2 today, but don’t expect much dialogue!

But the dialogue you do get is powerful.

Better yet, it comes from new addition Catherine O’Hara, who, in an undisclosed role, appears to be working with Joel (Pedro Pascal) to piece together the past and heal old wounds.

To do that, Joel will have to revisit his previous five years with Ellie as they come to terms with everything they’ve done and survived together.

Here’s the official logline for the eight-time Emmy winner’s sophomore season:

After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.

While all of this will be brand new to viewers, game players will once again see the story they played in The Last of Us Part II come alive.

I have it on good authority that the teaser showcases uncanny similarity to the game.

We’ve discussed whether remaining close to the source material is a good thing or not in the past, but my authority says that “while 99% of the teaser is lifted from the game … it looks better than Season 1.”

Coming from a voice we trust, that’s exciting news for fans of the game and the series.

Non-gamers like me, who have minds like sieves and forget casting notices once you read them and who failed to read an article before watching the trailer, might be confused about the time jump.

OK. Maybe it’s just me.

But what confused me was that Bella Ramsay seems to have been left behind with the aging process, and I thought Katilyn Deaver was playing the SORASed version.

It turns out that Deaver is playing a new villain named Abby, who may or may not look similar to the character gamers know.

The footage also gives us our first look at Jeffrey Wright as Issac, the leader of the Washington Liberation, a Seattle-based faction.

It’s a role he originated in The Last of Us Part II, so we’re really looking forward to this.

Returning cast members include Gabriel Luna, who will return as Joel’s brother, Tommy, and Rutina Wesley, who will return as Tommy’s wife, Maria.

Other new cast members include Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Here’s the trailer!

The only bad news is we still have to wait until 2025 for The Last of Us Season 2 to premiere.

Thankfully, fall TV is here to keep us busy until then.

So, how excited are you about the new season?
