The Smurfs Movie Drops New Teaser As Fans Rush To Grab Tickets

The Smurfs are back, causing a lot of hype. The official Instagram account of The Smurfs Movie has given the audience a new tease. The caption read: “Lights, camera, SMURFS! 💙 Get your tickets NOW to #SmurfsMovie, only in theatres Friday.” The snippet goes on to repeat musically “It’s from my heart”, then an existential question is asked: “What if the world is the judge?”—whatever that really means in Smurfs language.

The promo has been released days before the release of the movie; judging from the comments, these tiny blue contenders retain their nostalgic might. One enthusiastic user wrote: “You’ll see me running to the theaters this Friday!” While another said: “I have already have [sic] my ticket for this upcoming Friday.” The excitement is real, people.

Not all are really happy about this new makeover for the Smurfs: On one side, the commentary goes: “The idea that Smurfs having smartphones and especially internet and using social media (which is lovely but also a bit hatable if I say so myself, luckily for me, I’m neutral).” Once these mushroom-dwelling fantasy creatures are made digital, they can never please anybody, clearly.

This must be for Smurfette: “Smurfette looks absolutely smurfy 💙” – probably the most “Smurf” compliment one can give her. The Queen Blue keeps winning.

The movie is a new take on the old characters, rejuvenating them into contemporary times but still with that familiar Smurfs charm. Judging from the general feel of that teaser, it is a mixture of lovable and funny with a dash of existential pondering. A marketing operation probably working the emotional side with that “from my heart” repetition; how it really relates to a film about tiny blue guys remains an absurd mystery.

With tickets already on sale and the grand opening umbrelling nearby, Smurfs still make a case for being relevant in 2024. Whether that relevance shrieks nostalgia, curiosity for the modern update, or just a craving for wholesome fun in a movie theater, the audience seems willing to give these tiny blue guys another round. The real test will be Friday when we see if the movie delivers on the “from the heart” promise or merely another shameless cash-grab reboot.

Whatever way, the comments prove one thing you can take the Smurfs out of mushroom village, but you can’t take away mushroom village from the childhood memories of millions. The excitement is real; the skepticism is a-plus. So now we wait to find out if this movie will finally do justice to the Smurfs after almost 65 years or if it will be “smurf this” time for the fans.
