‘The Toxic Avenger’ Teaser Showcases Killer Nutz, Elijah Wood, and Extreme Bloody Violence

Among the many movies to have been stuck on the sidelines for a long while waiting to be released, The Toxic Avenger

is one that has been building expectations for several months with small, bizarre teasers. Now the movie has a release date marketing has continued with the latest trailer for the gory Troma reboot, which tells everyone to “Show the f*ck up” while giving the best look yet at Elijah Wood’s

creepy villain and his musical posse of minions in the form of monstercore rockers “Killer Nutz.”

Sticking with nuts, the newest teaser is exactly that. Starting out as something like a rock concert mockumentary, the whole thing very quickly descends into a bloody explosion of head and eyeballs as Peter Dinklage’s Toxie shows up with his super-powered mop and begins taking out the bad guys in the kind of brutal detail that usually is only seen in the pages of comic books. You can check out the trailer, with its new look at Wood’s most insane villain role since his appearance in Sin City.

‘The Toxic Avenger’ Defies MPA Ratings

There has been a wave of movies that have caused a stir recently for pushing boundaries on the amount of blood, gore, and disturbing imagery they are willing to put on screens. Terrifier 3 became the highest-grossing unrated movie of all time last year, and now The Toxic Avenger will be coming with the same lack of rating after its extreme violence put it out of bounds of the MPA’s ratings system.

There are obviously many studios that would force cuts to a movie in order to secure an MPA rating, but The Toxic Avenger is not that kind of movie – and if it was, it would not have had to work quite so hard to find a distributor. Now, the film will be seen in its full glory, which, according to a brilliant piece of marketing, includes “Ultra violent/toxic content, piss play, mutant nudity, hilarious harm, and gnarly theater fun.” As if that isn’t enough, and a second mocked-up warning promises “splatter laughter, monstercore, punk rock bandits, mops, and toxic sludge exposure.” What is there not to love?

The film is already holding a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score thanks to its festival screenings back in 2023, and for those who have ever experienced a Troma movie, everyone knows exactly the kind of disturbing and disgusting fun they can expect when the film hits cinemas in August.

The Toxic Avenger comes with a stacked cast that, as well as Dinklage and Wood, also features Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige. In a time when too many movie studios have been playing it safe with many of their movies, films like The Toxic Avenger are thriving on unpredictability and anarchy that has seen a huge rise in movies like Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey, the Terrifier franchise, and more. If The Toxic Avenger pulls in the kind of audience it seems to be building up to, then we could see many more similar projects being produced in the future.
