Tom Cruise Confirms ‘The Final Reckoning’ Is His Last ‘MIssion: Impossible’ Movie

Tom Cruise

is bringing his final Mission: Impossible action adventure to cinemas this week, but there are still plenty of people who have questioned whether it will be his final outing as Ethan Hunt. Despite the franchise being set to end with a double-header under the “Dead Reckoning” subtitle, that changed following the release of the seventh movie in the franchise, which, despite incredible reviews, failed to live up to the box office result it hoped for. But now, Cruise has addressed his Mission: Impossible future with a definite answer.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

has already opened in a few international locations to record-breaking opening day hauls for the franchise. The film will go worldwide later this week, and will take on Lilo & Stitch for the Memorial Day weekend box office crown. However, it looks like fans should really savor this Ethan Hunt mission, because, according to Cruise, it will be his last. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise said that everything you need to know is right there in the title. He said:

“It’s the final! It’s not called ‘final’ for nothing. There’s been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I’ve collaborated with, the crews, the people, the cultures… Everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking. It’s been exceptional.”

With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Cruise will be hoping that the film’s performance will climb to become a worthy conclusion to the franchise that he has inexplicably been part of for three decades. All will be revealed this weekend when the movie opens worldwide.
