When is House Of The Dragon season 4 being released?

House Of The Dragon season three has officially come to an end, but the HBO fantasy show is set to return.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the series is set nearly 200 years before Game Of Thrones. It depicts the downfall of House Targaryen amid a war of succession, better known as the Dance Of The Dragons.

Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith lead the show’s cast, alongside Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine, Steve Toussaint, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell and Tom Glynn-Carney. In season three, James Norton and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth were among the newcomers.

All three seasons of House Of The Dragon are available to stream on HBO Max in the UK. The show was renewed for a fourth season in November 2025.

HBO CEO Casey Bloys confirmed House Of The Dragon would end with season four, which was always the plan to begin with.

When asked by Deadline if it’s the final season, Bloys said: “Yes, that is the idea. The idea has always been to follow the history of the Targaryens. If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end up. So there is a natural end to this particular history of that House of the Targaryens.”

Does season 4 have a release date?

The fourth season is set to be released in 2028, but an exact date is yet to be announced.

Considering past seasons have premiered in either June or August, it’s likely the final season will debut sometime in summer 2028.
