The New York Yankees had their way with the Baltimore Orioles, defeating them 12-1 on Monday to finish off a four-game series sweep.
Aaron Judge got the scoring started in the first inning with a two-run homer, which broadcaster Michael Kay used as an opportunity to honor former Yankees play-by-play announcer John Sterling, who died earlier Monday.
Judge and Cody Bellinger combined for seven RBIs during Monday’s contest, which saw the Yankees score six earned runs against reliever Lou Trivino in his Orioles debut. Judge and Bellinger tallied a collective 15 RBIs in the series.
“The biggest thing is when we can get to the bullpen early, and early in a series, and get a couple arms that teams don’t want to throw, I think that’s where you see big offensive explosions like that,” Judge said, according to SNY.
“Take a walk when you can, come up with a big hit when you can, and just wear down teams.”
Cam Schlittler allowed one earned run over 5 2/3 innings, ending his outing with a 1.52 ERA through eight starts.
New York outscored Baltimore 39-10 across the four meetings.
The Yankees have won 14 of their last 16 games, while the Orioles have lost five straight.
Baltimore’s five consecutive losses have all come by more than five runs, which is a franchise record, according to The Baltimore Banner’s Andy Kostka.
