Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Teaser Reveals Premiere Date for the Final Episodes

Fans of hit cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine have now been hit some very cool, cool, cool, cool information that is sure to make them feel “noice”, with a new teaser revealing that the upcoming eighth and final series will premiere on Thursday, August 12. It will forever feel like a missed opportunity that the show won’t end on a ninth series but, we put our dreams away.

Along with the trailer and assortment of footage which is sure to have fans looking back fondly on the show’s previous seasons, NBC has also unveiled a new synopsis for the gang’s impending adventure, which hints at a surprisingly sombre direction for the precinct’s final outing.

“Jake and the squad must try to balance their personal lives and their professional lives over the course of a very difficult year.”

The idea that the series would need to take into account real-world events has been brought up several times in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the ongoing Black Lives Matter demonstrations. Andy Samberg, who plays Jake Peralta in the cop-based series, has previously said the new season of the show will “not shy away” from the “serious problems” of real-life but that all they can do is raise the issues, they can’t solve them.

“I think it’s important for us and for anyone watching our show to keep in mind if we’re looking for a half-hour comedy show to be the ones to solve this problem, we’re in trouble,” he said. “Our job is pointing out that stuff isn’t getting done right and spreading the word that we’re hopeful that it can get better.”

Samberg continued, saying that he believed the police procedural sitcom has always presented the police force in an authentic way, but the that the new season will force them to take an introspective look at themselves. “I do believe that our characters need to examine their roles in the world,” he admitted. “They’re going to be forced to look in the mirror and see who they’re complicit with. We have a decent track record of addressing social issues.” Samberg assured viewers though that the final series would not forget that it’s a comedy, and would avoid “punishing viewers who like our show and care about our characters.”

Samberg’s co-star Terry Crews, who plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords, even revealed that the writers behind Brooklyn Nine-Nine decided to scrap four episodes that had already been written in the wake of real-life goings on. “[Producer Dan Goor] had four [new] episodes all ready to go and they just threw them in the trash. We have to start over,” Crews revealed.

Created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur, Brooklyn Nine-Nine revolves around Jake Peralta, an immature but talented NYPD detective in Brooklyn’s fictional 99th Precinct, who often comes into conflict with his new commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt.

The stellar ensemble cast features Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta, Andre Braugher as Captain Raymond Holt, Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, Terry Crews as Terry Jeffords, Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago, Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle, Chelsea Peretti as Gina Linetti, Dirk Blocker as Michael Hitchcock, and Joel McKinnon Miller as Norm Scully. The ten-episode eighth and final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to premiere on August 12, 2021.
