Camrus Johnson as Batwing Revealed in Batwoman Season 2 Photos

Batwing is coming to the ArrowVerse. The character is set to appear in the Batwoman season 2 finale later this month, with The CW releasing some first-look photos online. Camrus Johnson, who has been playing Luke Fox on the show, is set to take up the mantle of Batwing, marking the character’s first-ever appearance in live-action.

Luke Fox, the son of Lucious Fox in DC Comics, is the second character to become Batwing. Originally, it was David Zavimbe. The photos offer our first look at Camrus Johnson in costume. One features him with the helmet off, while the other sees him leaping to the ground from the Gotham City skyline. Johnson, in sharing the photos on Twitter, said the following.

Batwing.
The same day that a DC comic book I wrote hit shelves about one of the coolest superheroes ever made, we’re officially announcing that I’m about to become that superhero. The first live action Batwing in history, fighting crime right next to Batwoman. pic.twitter.com/0zLk6oGyvC

As he mentions, Camrus Johnson recently penned a story in Batman: Urban Legends #4 that features Batwing. In the continuity of Batwoman, Luke Fox recently survived multiple gunshot wounds at the hands of the Crows. This will ultimately pave the way for him to become the DC superhero. In a statement released with the photos, Johnson had this to add.

Now go pick up BATMAN: URBAN LEGENDS #4 in your local comic book store!! There’s a Batwing story WRITTEN. BY. BATWING!!!)

(Batfam, I love each and every one of you. You’re the reason that this is even possible, so from the bottom of my heart… you are literal perfection.) pic.twitter.com/sOJoPMSPm1

“Honestly, it’s hard to explain how much it means to me to wear the Batwing suit and officially play my first superhero. The main reason I wanted to be in Batwoman was for this opportunity, to give kids like me another black hero to look up to and relate to. It’s hard not to smile when I catch myself in the mirror with the bat symbol on my chest, and I’ll keep smiling through every fight scene, every awesome stunt, and every Gotham night where Batwing is finally in the field!”

Batwoman originally starred Ruby Rose in the lead role during season 1. Rose departed the show in season 2, paving the way for Javicia Leslie to take over as a new character named Ryan Wilder. Now, it appears Wilder will have some company while fighting crime in Gotham City. Showrunner Caroline Dries had this to say about it.

“I’ve been looking forward to seeing Batwing since we decided to make Luke Fox a fundamental part of our Bat Team way back in the pilot development stages. I can speak for Cam when I say, so has he! But this character couldn’t come out of nowhere. We built this character from a deeply personal and complicated Luke story that we began setting up in season one, and I look forward to unfolding it over the course of season three.”

Costume designer Maya Mani cooked up the Batwing suit alongside Diana Patterson and illustrator Andy Poon. The Batwoman season 2 finale is set to air on June 27. Be sure to check out the photos for yourself from the official Batwoman Twitter account.
