Good Omens Season 2 First Look Shared by Neil Gaiman

When Good Omens brought the much loved Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett novel to life, many fans believed that it was going to be a limited series. With the sad passing of Pratchett in 2015, his instructions that all of his uncompleted novels should be destroyed and on further Discworld adventures should occur, the one thing no-one expected was for Prime Video to announce a second season of the Michael Sheen and David Tennant led series about an angel and demon who have a strangely amicable working relationship – at least some of the time.

However, a novel sequel to Good Omens was something that was talked about many times over the decades, and Gaiman revealed after the renewal announcement that he and Pratchett had previously discussed where the story may go next, and with Gaiman working on the project, we now get to see the next chapter in the story of the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley. As filming began last month, first look images of the stars back on set have been released.

“I am so happy to be back here on the streets of Soho, watching, every day, the glorious performances of Michael Sheen and David Tennant,” Gaiman said in a statement.

“I miss having Terry Pratchett’s genius, but it does feel like we are still all walking around inside his head. It’s been an absolute pleasure to have the brilliant John Finnemore co-write this season’s story shenanigans with me, and to work with director and my co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon as he steers the ship, along with our astonishing crew, who have returned to do it again. In this season we get to have new adventures with old friends, to solve some extremely mysterious mysteries, and we encounter some entirely new humans (living, dead, and otherwise), angels, and demons. We were lucky in the first season to have so many outstanding actors taking part, so I took pleasure in inviting people back, wherever we could, some in the roles they played originally, some in new parts written just for them.”

In a post by Neil Gaiman on Instagram, he shared an image of an on set chair, on which sits Pratchett’s trademark hat and scarf. Gaiman wrote, “Terry is here in spirit and hat and scarf. When we shoot in the bookshop we will hang them in there but for now they are here on his chair.”

While much of the story of the new season is unknown, descriptions of the new episodes have revealed that the follow up will “illuminate the uncanny friendship” between the lead entities, adding that following the events of the first season, “Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.”

Along with Sheen and Tennant, who over the last couple of years made everyone appreciate working remotely via Zoom with their hilarious sitcom, Staged, others appearing in the new season include Paul Adeyefa, Michael McKean, Gloria Obianyo, Miranda Richardson, Maggie Service, Reece Shearsmith, and Nina Sosanya in roles that will be announced later. There is currently also no word on exactly when the new season of Good Omens will air, but it is expected to be sometime late 2022 at the earliest.
