The adaptation of Louis Bayard’s novel The Pale Blue Eye has added Robert Duvall, Gillian Anderson, and Timothy Spall to its ensemble.
‘Out of the Furnace’
The much-anticipated gothic-horror The Pale Blue Eye is continuing to stud itself with a profound cast, which has now got new joiners including Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education), Robert Duvall (The Godfather, The Judge), and Timothy Spall (Harry Potter). The film, which was announced earlier this year, previously announced an ensemble of a cast which includes Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Toby Jones (Naked, Finding Neverland), Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, and Charlotte Gainsbourg (Nymphomaniac).
The film will be a detective thriller and will take place in 1830, and will be set around a series of murders that occurred in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The film will star Christian Bale (who’s also producing) as Detective Augustus Landor who hires the help of an Academy Cadet to solve the cases; the cadet who then became a famous poet and author, Edgar Allan Poe. Harry Potter alumn, Harry Melling, who starred in the series as Dudley Dursley will essay the role of Poe, who garnered the attention of fans and critics alike after an applauded performance in The Queen’s Gambit.

Scott Cooper is helming the film as the director and writer, while he’s also producing with his long-time collaborator Bale. Cooper and Bale have previously worked together on Out of the Furnace and Hostiles. Cooper has described his adaptation of Louis Bayard’s novel as a passion project, which he has always curated with Christian Bale in mind. Besides Bale, Cooper is actually reuniting with more of his previous cast actors, especially the newly added Gillian Anderson, whom he had worked years back in an episode of The X-Files. He has also collaborated with Robert Duvall in his critically acclaimed debut feature, Crazy Heart (2009).
The film is being produced by Cross Creek Pictures, who earlier produced The Trial of Chicago 7. As was the case for Cross Creek’s previous venture, The Pale Blue Eye has also landed a deal with Netflix in a bid which the streaming platform, securing its rights. Besides the aforementioned cast members, the film also has a large set of actors essaying various roles in supporting, which includes, Gideon Glick, Matt Helm, Steven Maier, Brennan Cook, Joey Brooks, and Charlie Tahan.
The Pale Blue Eye does not have a set release date but it’s a confirmed Netflix project, which will be made available to stream on the platform, probably after a limited release in theaters. Currently, Scott Cooper is receiving warm applauds for his film Antlers, while gearing up for The Pale Blue Eye. On the other hand, Bale has recently wrapped up Thor: Love and Thunder and shall be joining Cooper to finish his production duties on the film. This news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter.
