Part III Castle Goes Up for Sale for $7 million

A Sicilian property used as the shooting location for The Godfather: Part III has been listed with Sotheby’s Realty for a hefty sum.

Paramount Pictures

Following the recent sale of the original house from A Nightmare on Elm Street, another iconic property is going under the hammer for anyone with a sizable chunk of money to spare. The Sicilian castle that served as the main location for shooting on Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather: Part III has been advertised for sale by Sotheby’s Realty for the price of $7 million. Coming 16 years after the second movie, The Godfather: Part III was released on Christmas Day, 1990 and was not well received by fans, but still went on to receive a number of Oscar nominations.

The listing appeared on the Sotheby’s website, the listing details the impressive details of the castle, which boasts “three joint buildings on two levels, with two rectangular towers in a symmetrical position; on the sides of the towers, there are two bodies at a single elevation, in a medieval style of Norman inspiration. The elegant three-arched portico opens up the access to the beautiful monumental staircase of precious marble that forks at the sides and leads to the first floor where, on the central wall, the authoritative portrait of the Baron stands out.

The ceiling of the staircase is wooden coffered with the initials of the family last name and the coat of arms with alternating motifs. The whole floor is defined by comfortable bedrooms and large halls with high ceilings that follow one after the other up to the opposite ends facing the two terraces each of approx. 130 square meters.”

Further in the listing, the description goes on to mention the property’s use in The Godfather sequel as well as other movies of the time. It continues:

“The fascinating manor has not only hosted illustrious characters from all over the world, but has also been chosen several times as the location of well-known films such as “A beautiful November” by Mauro Bolognini, played by the wonderful Gina Lollobrigida and “The Godfather III” by Francis Ford Coppola, played by the great Al Pacino.”

The Castle Used In The Godfather: Part III Is The Latest Property To Be Recently Put Up For Sale

The Sicilian Castle is not the only property that has been put up for sale recently, with the location used for Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street closing on Halloween last year for the sum of just under $3 million. While this seems like the easiest way to make money from these properties based on their movie history, there are many property owners who have instead turned their attention to offering breaks at the properties via Airbnb, which has seen the likes of the Stu Macher house from the original Scream, and the Italian villa used in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci become available for people to stay at for exclusive events.

When it comes to The Godfather: Part III, while the film may have not exactly hit the same highs as its predecessors, the film still holds a place in film history and that will always help the sale of any property, so ever with such a high price tag, it is unlikely that the castle will be left on the market for too long before being snapped up.
