She-Hulk’s Tim Roth Was Amazed to Return to MCU After Thirteen Years

Tim Roth has been talking about his excitement to be back in the MCU as the Abomination in the upcoming She-Hulk series on Disney+.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has thrown up many surprise appearances across its ever-expanding narrative, and there have been some characters that fans never expected to see again after their initial introduction. Top of that particular list has to be Emil Blonsky/ Abomination, who seemed destined to be a one-time character after his role in 2008’s disjointed The Incredible Hulk, and the return of whom was as much a surprise to actor Tim Roth as anyone else. Having made a brief appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings, Roth will take on a meatier role in the upcoming She-Hulk series, and the actor is excited to be back in the MCU after a thirteen-year absence.

“Well, honestly, it totally surprised me. I went in to chat with Kevin Feige and he said, ‘I’ve got an idea. Come in.’ Really? Really? Because the original thing that I did, when I did that first Incredible Hulk movie, was I just did it for my kids,” Roth told Uproxx.

Of course, a lot has changed in the world of Marvel Studios since Roth originally starred in The Incredible Hulk. Back then, the MCU was still something that would come in the future, and when Roth filmed the movie, there had been no films released to gauge exactly what did or didn’t work. While the movie itself became something of a lost child in the grand scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner being replaced later by Mark Ruffalo to great effect, and only the character of Thaddeus Ross making it into subsequent movies, it is not surprising that Roth was shocked to be offered the chance to come back to the role after so long.

Tim Roth Found It a Bonus Getting To Work With Mark Ruffalo On She-Hulk.

Roth’s appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings only required him to provide a voice role for the part of the Abomination, but the role was to be a stepping stone to a more invested role in the She-Hulk series, and the actor has found it exciting to come back to the franchise and work with Mark Ruffalo and Tatiana Maslany. Roth explained:

“In a way, it was pre-Iron Man. It hadn’t come out. And that was when they figured it out. Figured out, ‘Oh, that’s how you do it.’ And then they worked it out. Some of them better than others, whatever, but they worked it out. For me, Wolverine and very much Deadpool. So. it was just for my kids when they were little. Did that. So I was amazed when they came back around and said, ‘How would you feel about…’ And I went, ‘Yeah. All right!’ And we just shot it, I guess in the summer last year or whatever. I think that they’re in post now doing it, so whenever. Bonus, I got to work with Mark Ruffalo. Awesome. Who I love. And I don’t know if I’m allowed to say. Oh, I can say that. But this extraordinary woman, Tatiana [Maslany] … Incredible, that woman. So that was a blast. It was insane.”

She-Hulk is expected to premiere sometime toward the summer, and fans can expect to see a first full trailer sometime around the conclusion of the Moon Knight series in April or May.
