The Riddler, Batman, Catwoman, and Penguin have gotten their own new character posters ahead of next month’s release of The Batman.

Some new character posters have been released for The Batman. As we have seen in the promotional materials for the film, Paul Dano’s Riddler serves as the primary villain. He has been tormenting Gotham City with his serial murders, though he also takes delight in leaving behind puzzles at the crime scenes for “The Batman” to decipher. Perhaps he feels that the ultimate challenge will be stumping the World’s Greatest Detective?
The Riddler sets his sights on Gotham’s other biggest personalities in the character posters. Each of them contains the phrase “unmask the truth,” with question marks covering the faces of Robert Pattinson’s Batman, Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, and Colin Farrell’s Penguin. Another poster for the Riddler himself also has the phrase, which makes sense as this version of the Riddler is fully masked. What does it all mean? We’ll presumably find out in the film. The Batman also stars John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham district attorney Gil Colson. Matt Reeves directs the film using a screenplay co-written with Peter Craig. The movie is not connected to the DCEU and is set in a standalone universe meant to launch its own series of films and spinoff shows.

The Batman’s Greatest Fear Is Having His True Identity Exposed

The Riddler seems to know that Batman is Bruce Wayne in the sneak peeks and teasers. As Robert Pattinson has explained, this poses a tremendous problem for the Dark Knight. The actor believes that this incarnation of the superhero particularly fears having his identity revealed, and if the Riddler knows who he is, this could change everything.
“Perhaps his greatest fear is the mask being stripped off of him, revealing the fact that Batman is Bruce Wayne. It’s almost like death to him. He fights that way as Batman,” Pattinson said.
We are also looking at a more brutal version of Batman than we’ve seen in most other versions of the Dark Knight’s story. Pattinson believes that his Bruce takes a particular enjoyment in pummeling criminals senseless. In his mind, he sees every thug apprehended as the person who killed his parents, justifying the unleashing of his “vengeance” upon the criminal underworld.
“I imagined it that way from the rehearsal of the first fight, I thought it was funnier: something in him just wanted to slit the guy’s throat! I told myself that if he spends his nights chasing criminals, it is impossible that he does not take pleasure in it,” Pattinson said, via Premiere. “He suffers and it is a desire that overwhelms him. And by dint of knocking, his mind clears, he calms down, he reaches a state close to plenitude. I’m sure in this first fight, he manages to convince himself that every guy in front of him is the one who killed his mother (Laughs.) And so that allows him to vent all his rage.”
The Batman will be released in theaters on March 4, 2022.
