The three join a pool of talented actors including Tom Holland, Emmy Rossum, and Amanda Seyfried
Sasha Lane, Christopher Abbott, and Emma Laird are set to round out the cast of Apple’s The Crowded Room. They join previously announced Tom Holland, Amanda Seyfried, and Emmy Rossum.
The Crowded Room is a seasonal anthology series from New Regency that will explore inspirational stories of those who have struggled with mental illness and learned to live successfully with it. Written and executive produced by Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman, the 10-episode first season is based on Goldsman’s own life and inspired by Daniel Keyes’ biography The Minds of Billy Milligan.
The lead, Danny Sullivan, will be played by Holland and is based on Milligan, who was the first person acquitted of a crime because of multiple-personality disorder, now known as dissociative identity disorder. Lane will play Ariana, Danny’s closest friend and ally, together they seek revenge for the pains of their past. Abbott portrays Stan, Danny’s lawyer, and a Vietnam veteran processing trauma from his past. Laird will play Isabel, Danny’s friend from high school who recognizes his talent and heart.

Seyfried plays Rya, a clinical psychologist faced with the most challenging case of her career. She puts her patients before herself while trying to balance her life as a single mother. Rossum plays Candy, Danny’s mother, through their struggles in life, she dreams of salvation in the form of someone else.
The Crowded Room is One of the Many Upcoming Apple TV+ Productions

The Crowded Room is a co-production between Apple Studios and New Regency. The anthology will be executive produced by Suzanne Heathcote; Alexandra Milchan for EMJAG Productions; and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Michael Schaefer. Kornel Mundruczo will serve as director and executive producer on the first season. Goldsman serves as executive producer through his Weed Road Productions banner.
Lane is known for her role in American Honey and will next be seen in Hulu-BBC’s limited series Conversations with Friends based on Sally Rooney’s best-seller novel. Abbott is known for his portrayal of Yossarian in Catch-22 and is wrapping production on Yorgos Lanthimos’ feature Poor Things. Laird has appeared in two short films and had a main role as Iris in Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown.
Lane is repped by WME, The Long Run’s Amy BonFleu, and Granderson Des Rochers. Abbott by WME and Management 360 and Laird by Unbreakable Entertainment and APA.
Although there is no release date yet set for The Crowded Room, production will begin in March, and the series is looking to debut sometime late 2022.
