Food Network Kicks Off Spooky Season With Two Fan Favorites

Fall television is about to get a whole lot sweeter, spookier, and more competitive as two of Food Network’s biggest seasonal competitions bring some frightening fun back to primetime.

Halloween Wars and Halloween Baking Championship are back next week with more creepy confections, ambitious designs, familiar faces, and challenges that will put some of the nation’s top bakers and food artists to the test.

The competitions have become an annual tradition for fans, signaling the unofficial start of fall with a mix of food, fun, and just the right amount of fright.

Halloween Wars Raises the Stakes With an All-Star Showdown

Halloween Wars kicks things off Sunday, September 13, with Jonathan Bennett returning as host.

This season’s Back from the Dead theme turns the competition into another all-star showdown, with seven teams of former competitors battling for the title and a $30,000 grand prize.

Each team includes a cake artist, sugar expert, and professional pumpkin carver, with all three specialties combining to create the elaborate displays at the center of the competition.

Teams must also include a tasting element for the judges to sample, adding another layer to challenges that already demand plenty of creativity and technical skill.

Award-winning cake artists Shinmin Li and Andrew Fuller will serve as judges as the teams take on tougher challenges throughout the season.

The two-hour premiere starts with head-to-head battles before the losing teams face a Do-or-Die challenge, in which one team will be eliminated.

Halloween Wars airs Sundays at 9/8c, with episodes streaming the next day on HBO Max.

Halloween Baking Championship Conjures Up a Fresh Batch of Bakers

Halloween Baking Championship follows Monday, September 14, with John Henson back as host.

Halloween Baking Championship Season 12 sends ten bakers into the Museum of Unnatural History, where eerie exhibits will inspire the challenges on the way to a $25,000 prize.

The museum’s collections include Possessed Pests, Demon Masks, and a Vault of Bones, giving the bakers plenty of creepy material to work with.

This season’s challenges will ask them to turn those themes into desserts that still have to deliver on flavor, technique, and presentation.

Stephanie Boswell and Zac Young return to the judges’ table, joined this season by Aarti Sequeira, who previously served as a judge on Halloween Wars.

Together, they will be looking for bakes that meet the challenge in both design and taste.

The two-hour premiere begins with a Haunted Heat inspired by each baker’s Best Halloween Ever.

The winner takes home $1,000, while the top three bakers earn safety and the rest move on to a Hideous Mask Desserts challenge inspired by the museum’s Hall of Humanity.

And the creepy themes will not be the only thing keeping the bakers on their toes.

Unexpected flavor twists will be thrown into the mix, forcing them to adjust while still delivering desserts that fit the challenge and taste as good as they look.

Halloween Baking Championship airs Mondays at 9/8c, with episodes streaming the next day on HBO Max.

For foodies, Halloween Wars and Halloween Baking Championship are more than just cooking competitions.

Their return ushers in Food Network’s holiday competition season.
