iCarly Season 2 Trailer Officially Confirms April Release Date



iCarly is back for a second season following the successful revival put out by Paramount + last year. The fresh take on the popular kids show focuses on the adult lives and problems of the principal cast the fans grew up watching. And those fans won’t have to wait long for more misadventures, with the official trailer confirming a release date for April 8th.

The first season of the revival was a huge success, recapturing an adoring fan base and performing markedly better with critics than the show’s original run. It proved popular enough to earn a second season, an official trailer for which just dropped, offering fans a peek at what to expect.

The first season ended on a love triangle cliffhanger with Carly confronting feelings for her ex Beau and a new love interest Wes. The trailer for season 2 opens with a tease for an answer to this very conundrum, with Carly declaring she is in “a hot, hot relationship” without revealing who.

The trailer then goes on to tease a relationship between Carly and Freddie, although it appears to be largely staged for some reason. Inter-spliced with some typical Spencer antics and a few action-oriented scenes towards the end, and it looks like fans of the surprise hit are in for a treat.

What is iCarly About?

Nostalgia can be a powerful motivator, but even in the age of revivals and remakes, few fans would have hitched their wagon to a continuation of the 2007 Nickelodeon series iCarly when it was announced. The show was initially received with a lukewarm critical response, but it did manage to amass something of a cult following during its initial six-season run.

One episode from 2010, in particular, was viewed by an audience of 11.2 million, making it the second-most viewed telecast in Nickelodeon history. An impressive feat considering some of the children’s entertainment juggernauts put out by the network over the years, including the likes of Rugrats and SpongeBob SquarePants.

The show was a sort of semi-spin-off to another of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows of the era Drake & Josh. And an attempt to branch off one of Drake & Josh’s breakout stars, Miranda Cosgrove, who played the younger sister of the duo Megan.

iCarly initially launched in the September of 2007, the same month Drake & Josh aired its final episode and the two shows shared many of the creative talents behind-the-scenes as a result, most notably Dan Schneider. iCarly ended up eclipsing its predecessor running for five more seasons before been brought to an end in 2012.

In 2020, it was announced that a revival of the series was in the works, targeted at a more adult audience who grew up with the original show in their youth. Cosgrove returned to reprise her role alongside fellow co-stars Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress. Sadly for fans, Jennette McCurdy, who played best friend Sam declined the offer to join the cast. The actress has struggled with health issues brought about by her time as a child star, so understandably didn’t want to be drawn back in.
