Across the Spider-Verse Writers Hint at Cameos from Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield & Tobey Maguire

The writers and producers behind the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), Chris Miller and Phil Lord, have responded intriguingly positively to the idea of live-action Spider-Man Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire appearing in the highly anticipated animated follow-up. Asked by Variety whether there was any possibility that the Spider-Man: No Way Home trio could appear in the next adventure across the multiverse, Lord replied, “It’s a high bar to clear. The gauntlet has been thrown,” with Miller adding, “All things are possible in the multiverse.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is expected to add all manner of Spider-Man variants from all over the multiverse, and now that Spider-Man: No Way Home has reintroduced both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire back into the Marvel fray, there is really no reason why Miles Morales could not come face-to-face with them during his next adventure.

While we still have no idea whether Tom Holland and his Spidey pals will feature in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), Lord and Miller’s reaction is certainly a promising one. Notably, Holland himself has said he would love to be a part of Sony’s animated Spider-Man sequel. “[Producer] Amy [Pascal] actually asked me on the set of [Spider-Man: No Way Home] and no one has come back to me,” Holland previously revealed while speaking to SYFY WIRE. “I wanna be in them. Yeah, I love those movies.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) Will Hurl Miles Morales Back into the Multiverse

Sony Pictures

The latest synopsis for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) has offered some insight into the continuing adventures of Miles Morales, with the sequel hurling him into the multiverse like never before. “Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered,” the logline says.

Lord and Miller have teased a potential crossover with not just the Marvel Cinematic Universe but Tom Hardy’s Venom as well, saying, “The Multiverse is big and wide. And all things grow. … Why would you think a Multiverse, in which many things are possible, that [those things are] not related?”

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) stars Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, a teenager with spider-like abilities, who took over for Peter Parker as Spider-Man following the latter’s death; Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, a superheroine from another dimension; Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, an alternate version of Spider-Man from the future; Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, an older, disheveled version of Spider-Man also from another dimension; and Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is scheduled to be released on October 7, 2022.
