WandaVision, Moon Knight Writers Join Agatha: House of Harkness Series

Marvel Studios officially announced a WandaVision spin-off about Agatha Harkness during its Disney+ Day presentation back in November, but updates on the project have been scarce since then. With series such as Hawkeye and Moon Knight debuting since then and projects like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on the way, there hasn’t been a lot of time to discuss Agatha: House of Harkness. That’s not to mention the other Disney+ shows in development, including Echo, Ironheart, Armor Wars, and the second seasons of both What If…? and Loki. After many quiet months on the Agatha front, some of the show’s creative team members have been revealed.

According to new listings from the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW), Laura Donney, Cameron Squires, and Peter Cameron will all be part of House of Harkness. The credits also say that the series will be part of the 2023-2024 television season and will be a comedy. While the WGAW doesn’t specifically say what roles the three will have on House of Harkness, they each wrote episodes of WandaVision, and Cameron contributed to a few episodes of Moon Knight as well. Donney wrote the penultimate WandaVision episode “Previously On,” Squires wrote the show’s seventh episode “Breaking the Fourth Wall,” and Cameron co-wrote episodes four (“On a Very Special Episode…”) and five (“All-New Halloween Spooktacular!”). Cameron’s work on Moon Knight included the third and fourth episodes of the season, titled “The Friendly Type” and “The Tomb.”

House of Harkness is Getting the WandaVision Band Back Together

Disney

It’s not exactly surprising that Marvel is bringing over members of the WandaVision writing team to help develop House of Harkness. Agatha made her debut in the MCU’s first-ever Disney+ series, and the character was an instant hit with fans. Between playing the nosy neighbor Agnes, or the Darkhold-wielding witch Agatha Harkness, Kathryn Hahn’s Emmy-nominated performance is one of the reasons WandaVision is considered one of the best Marvel shows to date. Keeping on the same creatives who helped shape Agatha’s character in WandaVision should bode well for the quality of House of Harkness.

Many questions still remain about what exactly House of Harkness will be focusing on. Wanda trapped Agatha in Westview following the events of WandaVision, so the most likely scenario is that House of Harkness will flesh out Agatha’s backstory. WandaVision’s eighth episode “Previously On” opens with a flashback to Agatha about to be burned at the stake by a coven of witches in the 1600s. Since the events of WandaVision take place in present day, there are literally hundreds of years of Agatha stories that can be told. Exact details of the House of Harkness story remain under wraps, but the possibilities are seemingly endless with what the series can accomplish.

WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer will serve as the lead writer and executive producer of House of Harkness, and Hahn will be reprising the role of Agatha. No other casting information is known at this time, nor is an exact release date, but according to the WGAW, the earliest Hosue of Harkness could hit Disney+ is the fall of 2023.
