Visions Season 2 Announced for 2023

Star Wars Celebration continued to bring a number of announcements, including confirmation of a second season of Visions.

Star Wars Celebration has brought many revelations over the last few days, and today that has continued with a host of new announcements and interviews delivering some new information for fans. Among these was the confirmation that Star Wars: Visions will be returning in spring 2023 for a second season. The animated anthology series was a big hit on Disney+ when it made its debut in 2021 as the first anime release in the Star Wars franchise, gaining a lot of praise for pushing out in a different direction to previous animations linked to the franchise.

Star Wars: Visions was certainly not a run of the mill animation series, or even a standard anthology, as each episode not only told a new story linked to the Star Wars saga but also took on very different animation styles from a number of top anime studios. Among those to participate in the huge collaborative effort in the first season were Studio Colorido, Trigger, Science SARU, Kinema Citrus, Geno Studio, Production IG, and Kamikaze Douga, but it has not yet been announced whether they will be returning for season two or whether a new group of studios will have the chance to make their impact on the franchise.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The first season consisted of episodes ranging in length from 13 to 22 minutes, and focused on many different aspects of the Star Wars saga including the fallen Jedi Order, the Sith and much more. Having been such a hit for its wide-ranging focus and visionary style, the second season will probably not want to make too many changes to the format when it returns.

Star Wars Celebration Has Delivered More News For Anthology Fans

Lucasfilm / Disney

As well as the return of Star Wars: Visions, Star Wars Celebration also brought some long-awaited news on another animated anthology series, Tales of the Jedi. Coming from Star Wars’ walking bible Dave Filoni, Tales of the Jedi will include new stories built around well known points in time from the Star Wars saga and will see the return of popular characters such as Qui-Gon Jinn and Count Dooku as younger versions of those previously seen in the Star Wars franchise. According to Filoni, the series will also have multiple episodes that will center on the character of Ahsoka Tano.

Of course, Ahsoka is also getting a live-action series following her appearance in The Mandalorian, with Rosario Dawson reprising her role. Dawson previously spoke about how much she has enjoyed being able to develop the character, especially considering how many of Star Wars’ best known characters are male. She previously told StarWars.com:

“I’m just really glad that [Ahsoka] lived, that we’ve been able to continue growing with her. I think that she’s so special. So many of the wonderful, awesome Jedi that we love and have gotten their stories told, are male, and you saw them older. When you got to see Anakin grow up it made such a huge difference. I think as people grew with her and aged with her and the story, they grew themselves, and evolved. I think it gives complexity to good and bad and right and wrong in a way that we don’t always get to have story-wise. It’s just fantasy. And I think she represents something stronger than that, about will and determination and audacity and tenacity.”
