Jeffrey Dean Morgan Says His Walking Dead Spin-Off Will Blow Fans’ Minds

Isle of the Dead is set to start filming this summer, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is excited to get going.

Of all the spin-off shows to come from The Walking Dead, Isle of the Dead is one of the most eagerly awaited as it continues the story of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan, who will be teaming up with Lauren Cohan’s Maggie in Manhattan to fight more zombies next year. According to Morgan, fans are going to love the spin-off. Replying to a tweet showing a Walking Dead edit video, Morgan shared his excitement to get started on the series, which is set to film this summer. He wrote:

“I’m BEYOND excited. Thrilled to continue this TWD journey as Negan. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be working with @LaurenCohan. We’ve read the season, it’s gonna blow your minds. I repeat, BLOW YOUR F-CKING MINDS.”

The spin-off will consist of six episodes, and with the popularity of Negan’s character it would not be surprising if more seasons follow. As well as Morgan and Cohan, the series also stars newcomer to the franchise Gaius Charles in the role of Izaak, a ruthless survivor and family man devoted to building a safe world for his wife and daughters. When it comes to the setting of the series, there were other ideas about how Maggie could appear in a spin-off, something Lauren Cohan shared with Comicbook.com. She explained:

“I know there have always been three, maybe four options for how Maggie would end up in a spinoff. For Maggie or Negan there’s been a bunch of ideas floating around. I think this story that Eli Jorné came up with, which is what we’ll be shooting for season one of Isle of the Dead, was just really powerful and such an interesting way for fans to get to see these characters continue.”

The Walking Dead Ends This Year, But Several Spin-Offs Are Coming.

The final episodes of The Walking Dead are set to arrive this fall, but that doesn’t mean the franchise is done by any means. As well as the already established Fear The Walking Dead, and this summer’s Tales of The Walking Dead, the next few years will take The Walking Dead franchise in a number of new directions, splitting some of the original characters into their own brand new storylines beyond the flagship show.

Along with Isle of the Dead, Norman Reedus will be getting his own spin-off as Daryl, a show that was originally planned to also feature Carol until Melissa McBride was forced to pull out of the project. That spin-off is set to film in Europe this year, and is believed to possibly link to the facility seen in the final moments of Walking Dead: World Beyond. Outside of this, we have still been promised that the Rick Grimes film is on its way, although the last real update on that project was back in July 2021 when Walking Dead producer Greg Nicotero said that there were many draft scripts being passed around and they wanted to “make sure they get it right.”
