WandaVision Star Reveals the Unexpected Season 2 Direction

While the fate of WandaVision‘s sequel has been a matter of speculation, it seems the direction for the series’ continuation has now been indirectly revealed by Debra Jo Rupp, one of the show’s stars. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been known for its unrivaled ability to keep fans on their toes, and the recent announcement regarding the second season of the popular Disney+ show, WandaVision, is no exception.

The pioneering season of WandaVision had indeed piqued the audience’s curiosity, but Marvel had remained noncommittal on its continuation. Meanwhile, other Disney+ series, such as Loki starring Tom Hiddleston, had their follow-up seasons readily confirmed. The hesitancy on Marvel’s part was not because of a lack of support or enthusiasm from the WandaVision cast.

Rupp’s recent interview with Berkshire Magazine (via The Direct) has shed some light on the uncertainty surrounding WandaVision Season 2. The actress implied that Marvel Studios’ upcoming series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, will essentially serve as a quasi-continuation of WandaVision. Rupp likened this format to that of American Horror Story, wherein each season embarks on a distinct narrative path while maintaining its core identity. Rupp shared,

“It’s the second season of ‘WandaVision’ for Marvel. It’s very much like ‘American Horror Story,’ where each season is a whole new kind of a thing. I was shocked when they called me, because I really thought that would be it, and I was fine with that. But when they called, I got so excited because it’s a character I never get to play. She’s gonna be great fun.”

Rupp, known for her role as Mrs. Hart in WandaVision, confirmed her involvement in the new MCU series, describing her character as “great fun” and revealing her current preparation to shoot more scenes in Atlanta. Despite her anticipation, Rupp maintained a level of secrecy consistent with Marvel’s renowned discretion, expressing her excitement for the character while keeping the plot details under wraps.

This unexpected revelation from Rupp correlates with the earlier commentary made by Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab in 2022. Diab had remarked on the perplexing decision not to renew successful shows like WandaVision for a second season, thus creating a sense of unpredictability and excitement for the viewers.

Rupp’s statement suggesting that Agatha: Coven of Chaos could be viewed as WandaVision’s second season raises the question of the potential trajectory for the series. It has already been hinted that WandaVision’s influence will heavily permeate the upcoming spin-off, with more than half a dozen actors reprising their roles.

The continuation of WandaVision, in the form of Agatha: Coven of Chaos, will reportedly share the same nine-episode format as its predecessor. Moreover, the plot of the new series will directly connect with the events outlined in WandaVision, hence further intertwining the two MCU projects. This approach presents a unique way of advancing the narrative, ensuring the original story’s essence remains a core part of the new series.

While Agatha: Coven of Chaos is currently in production, an official release date is yet to be confirmed. The show’s development and its implicit relation to WandaVision represent another innovative step in Marvel’s storytelling, as it continues to challenge the traditional boundaries of episodic series progression.
