Euphoria Wins Best Show at MTV Movie & TV Awards

One of today’s most popular television shows would certainly be HBO’s Euphoria, as this was proven once again with a very successful night at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. With its first two seasons, Euphoria has found immense success, so it was perhaps not a shock to see it nominated in the Best Show category. While the series faced some very steep competition, it may have been partly expected by many as well that Euphoria would get the win, considering its prior awards and widespread praise.

The other nominees for Best Show included Inventing Anna, Loki, Squid Game, Ted Lasso, and Yellowstone. Euphoria was the show with the most nominations of the night, tying with the film Spider-Man: No Way Home with seven noms. But it was Euphoria that stood tall at the end with the most awards won that night, netting four of those seven, two nominations were for the same category.

Both Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney were nominated for Best Performance in a Show, and Zendaya grabbed the win there. Euphoria also won for Best Fight for the Cassie vs. Maddy scene, and the other win came for the Here For the Hookup award. Dominic Fike’s song “Little Star” was nominated for Best Song, while Fike and Hunter Schafer were also up for Best Kiss. “Holding Out for a Hero” had also been nominated for Best Musical Moment.

Euphoria Has Been a Huge Hit for HBO

HBO

Created by Sam Levinson, Euphoria is based on an original Israeli miniseries by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin. The series follows Rue Bennett (Zendaya), a teenager struggling with addiction, along with other students at her high school. Zendaya previously won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series, the youngest actress in history to take that honor. The show is also the second most watched series in HBO history behind only Game of Thrones.

HBO wants to keep this train going, because Euphoria has a third season in the works. Zendaya has also teased “hope” to come in future episodes, suggesting that this hope that things will get better is a connection that viewers share with the Rue Bennett character.

“There’s a dark place that hits right in the middle of the season. And it was painful for everyone involved with making it,” Zendaya said of season 2, per Entertainment Tonight. “I know it was painful for me and I think it got to the point of, ‘We can’t leave her here. This can’t be the end of her story. There has to be some hope at the end of this. Something beautiful at the end of all this pain.’

She added, “I think that’s what we need. I think that’s what the world needs … So, if you can hold onto that, if you can bear with her through those painful moments, if you can still root for her, then maybe there is some hope at the end.”

You can watch the first two seasons of Euphoria on HBO Max.
