Warning: This article contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s final episode.
With Obi-Wan Kenobi being hailed by many as the best Star Wars project since Disney took over the franchise, it is not surprising that the murmurs about a possible second season have started to get a lot louder following the epic season finale. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have made it clear they would love to continue Obi-Wan and Darth Vader’s respective stories, and director Deborah Chow has said that there are certainly more stories to tell. Now Kathleen Kennedy has given her view on where the future lies for Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new interview with ET.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has built its story over the last several weeks, ending with a stunning finale that delivered all that it promised along with a number of surprise cameos. With the story now done, there are plenty of loose ends that could be either left alone to allow fans to fill in the gaps between the series and A New Hope, or they could be developed further in another series. Vader still wants to hunt down Kenobi, Reva has been redeemed and has a new future ahead of her away from the Empire, and Kenobi has been reunited with his old Master, Qui Gon Jinn, but even with stories still to tell, Lucasfilm president Kennedy is not rushing into anything.
“Well, frankly, we did set out to do that as a limited series, but I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us. And if we feel like, ‘OK, there’s a real reason to do this; it’s answering the why then,’ then we’ll do it. But we’ll see.”

Would A Second Season of Obi-Wan Kenobi End Up Repeating The Same Story?
Disney+
While it seems that everyone has been left wanting more from Obi-Wan Kenobi, that doesn’t automatically mean they are going to get it. While it would be easy to churn out another season of the show, would it simply turn out to be nothing more than a series that amounts to nothing more than another face-off between Kenobi and Vader? That is obviously just one of the questions that will be considered by Kennedy and the rest of the team before a new season is put into development.
It has been almost 20 years since fans last saw these two iconic characters come face to face with each other, and that is what has made Obi-Wan Kenobi a welcome addition to the Star Wars saga. Seeing it all happen again in a year or two may not have the same impact, and that could mean that rather than working on a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it is possible that a spin-off series featuring the Jedi Master would be a better option.
For now, Obi-Wan Kenobi has done what many Star Wars projects have failed to do, receiving almost unanimous praise and managing to deliver a finale that ensured the show went out with a bang. With many Star Wars projects in the works, this could bode very well for the future of the franchise.
