Fans of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared have been patient through the years, and that patience is about to pay off. On June 19th, the celebratory date of the viral dark comedy series, the official YouTube channel dropped the teaser for the upcoming series for Channel 4. The teaser itself can be viewed below.
The video, simply titled FLY, is a vague look into the lives of Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Duck. The three are sitting at their favorite spots in the kitchen when a fly starts buzzing around the table. Duck smacks the bug, calls it a “pesky bee”, then the camera zooms back out. With the trailer comes the exciting news, a release date! That’s right, the Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared series will be dropping this September! Since the trailer dropped, it surpassed over 2.3 million views!

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared
Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared is the brainchild of Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling. The two first crossed paths while attending Kingston University. Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared premiered on YouTube in 2011, created by the two in their spare time at school. The video starts out like your typical Sesame Street episode, where a notepad comes to life and starts singing a song about creativity. The three characters play along with the notepad until things take an unexpected and sinister turn. Soon, chaos takes over as the characters go a little too far with dark imagery and twisted music. The short took audiences by storm, prompting the creators to continue the series for six more episodes. Each episode tackles a new concept such as love, nutrition, dreams, and time!
The success of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared brought on the possibility of a series. On September 2018, two years after episode 6, a new video was uploaded to the channel titled Wakey Wakey…. The video itself was a teaser made in collaboration between Conaco, Blink Industries, and Super Deluxe. While the video itself was a 30 second montage of new footage, it was a massive success, gaining over 2 million views within 24 hours of its release. Shortly after the video’s premiere, Sloan would announce that Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared was picked up by Channel 4. Since the release of FLY, the first teaser has since been removed from the channel.
Things were quiet, almost too quiet, for a long time. Fans were waiting on the edge of their seats for news on the production. They finally got that news in July 2020 on Sloan’s Instagram account, where she announced that filming for the show had officially wrapped alongside a collection of behind-the-scenes photos of the cast and crew.
It’s all down to the wire, now! What was once a seemingly impossible milestone now seems so close you can almost taste that delicious chicken picnic! While we don’t have a specific day in September to look for, chances are that will be unearthed as we march closer to the month. In the meantime, fans can simply think of our clock friend helping us count down the minutes… or maybe not.
