“T
he original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time
, and we’re excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers. We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Ridley Scott Will Be Involved in Blade Runner 2099

As one of the greatest directors and producers of our time, Ridley Scott broke new ground with Blade Runner back in 1982. Based on Philip K. Dick’s novel ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?,’ the neo-noir science fiction thriller was a technological marvel for its time, pushing the boundaries of visual effects. While Scott would go on to create such classics as Thelma & Louise, and Gladiator, he returned to the franchise that made him a star, Alien, by helming Prometheus in 2012 and Alien: Covenant in 2017.

Scott will once again return to the world of Blade Runner, this time as a producer on Blade Runner 2099 with his company, Scott Free. Silka Luisa (Shining Girls, Halo) will also serve as executive producer, as well as showrunner for the series. The first two episodes will be directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, who most recently directed for the acclaimed FX series, Shōgun.
