Barbie Ferreira Joins Blumhouse’s Psychological Thriller House of Spoils

Soon after it was announced that Barbie Ferreira was leaving the hit HBO series Euphoria, the actress has just secured her next role. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Ferreira has officially joined the cast of House of Spoils, a psychological thriller that’s in development for a streaming release on Prime Video from Blumhouse Television. It was previously reported that Ariana DeBose, who won an Oscar for her role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, will be leading the cast of the film.

House of Spoils is written and directed by the filmmaking team of Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy. Jason Blum is producing for Blumhouse alongside Alex Scharfman, Lucas Joaquin, and Drew Houpt for Secret Engine, as well as Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. Blumhouse TV’s Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold are executive producing.

It’s not yet clear what role Ferreira’s character will play in the story, but she has been described as a “hopeful but sharp-tongued sous chef.” Prime Video has offered a description of the thriller which you can read below.

House of Spoils follows an ambitious chef (DeBose) who opens her first restaurant, a farm-to-table affair on a remote estate, where she battles kitchen chaos, a dubious investor, crushing self-doubts … and the powerful spirit of the estate’s previous owner, who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.

Ferreira is perhaps best known for her role as Kat Hernandez in the first two seasons of Euphoria. While HBO has renewed the show for a third season, Ferreira recently announced on Instagram that she was finished with the series. It’s not entirely clear why Ferreira left the show, though there have been rumors of some tension behind the scenes. Outside of Euphoria, Ferreira has also been seen in the HBO Max movie Unpregnant and Jordan Peele’s new thriller Nope.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye,” Ferreria had written. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it.”

As of now, Barbie Ferreira and Ariana DeBose are the only cast members who have been officially announced for the project. Julie Rapaport, head of movies at Amazon Studios, previously shared the excitement she has for the film after DeBose’s casting was announced.

“Since Blow the Man Down, we have been huge fans of Bridget and Danielle’s unique filmmaking voice and knew we needed to be a part of whatever they wanted to do next,” Rapaport said. “Pairing their thrilling script with Ariana’s incredible talent is a dream come true, and we could not be more excited to bring this story to the screen and to our customers around the world.”

Blumhouse TV president Chris McCumber added, “We’re excited to see Ariana’s fresh, bold and spirited energy that won her an Oscar in a role that is completely different. And with the gifted filmmaking team of Bridget and Danielle, the talent in front of and behind the camera is exceptional.”

House of Spoils will start production this fall. The film will premiere on Prime Video but does not yet have a release date.
