Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman’s Flatbush Misdemeanors Will Not Return for Season Three

Showtime has canceled Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman’s comedy series Flatbush Misdemeanors, Deadline reports. Based on their successful digital series, Flatbush Misdemeanors starred the two creators as fictionalized versions of themselves attempting to adapt to living in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood. The digital series was awarded the Best North American Short Film at the London Film Festival and the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the 2018 Florida Film Festival.

Flatbush Misdemeanors was given a straight-to-series order by Showtime in October 2020 and premiered the following May. That August, the series received the green light for a second season. News of the cancelation comes just weeks after the final episode of the series’ second season aired. In a statement to Deadline, the network stated:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Flatbush Misdemeanors will not be moving forward with a third season. We would like to thank the creators, executive producers and stars Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman, along with fellow executive producer Keith Heisler, our partners at Avalon, as well as our scene-stealing supporting cast of Kristin Dodson, Hassan Johnson and Kareem Green. We’re very proud to have taken Kevin and Dan’s distinctive shorts and expanded it into two seasons of excellent television. Those two funny and inventive seasons will live on our site for audiences to continue to discover and enjoy.”

Flatbush Misdemeanors was co-produced by Showtime and Avalon. Perlman and Iso executive produced alongside Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday, David Martin and Chloe Pisello for Avalon.

The Series and Its Creators

The half-hour comedy series followed characters, Kevin and Dan. Kevin appeared as a struggling painter with a pessimistic spirit, while Dan was a public school teacher who relied on Xanax to help with his chronic depression. The series also starred Kristin Dodson as Zayna Bien-Aime, Kareem Green as Kareem, Hassan Johnson as Drew Hill.

Perlman and Iso are both New York-based comics who collaborated on the digital series which led to the show’s creation. Iso, who is originally from Houston, was named one of Comedy Central’s Comics to Watch in 2019. He appeared in High Fidelity, opposite Zoë Kravitz, and the final season of Donald Glover’s award-winning series Atlanta. Iso also served as a writer for HBO’s That Damn Michael Che. He recently signed with Artists First.

Perlman, a New York native, wrote and directed the short film Cramming, about two friends in the eighth grade who are accused of cheating off each other during a school test. He also directed boomerang, an episode from season two of Flatbush Misdemeanors.
