She-Hulk Brings Back a Daredevil Staple for the Marvel Vigilante’s Return

SPOILERS for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law to follow…

Well, it finally happened. After weeks and weeks of waiting, Daredevil is back in the MCU thanks to the Disney+ series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. While some things about the Marvel vigilante may have changed, one fan-favorite element has remained the same: Daredevil’s affinity for fighting in hallways. Revealed courtesy of Daredevil Updates, Daredevil dons a yellow-and-red suit to once again step into a narrow space in order to enact some justice. Though this time, the fight ends with a little twist…

The return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil is something that fans have been waiting (both patiently and impatiently) for. And it did not disappoint. While the character is little different from his previous Netflix incarnation, the use of a hallway, and the brutal takedowns that the vigilante applies to these nameless goons, certainly suggests that his upcoming standalone series, Daredevil: Born Again, will more than satisfy.

Fighting in a hallway has become a staple of the live action Daredevil, with some of the most impressive sequences taking place in this area between rooms several times during the three Netflix seasons of the show. Of course, this is a She-Hulk show, with the superhero bringing this particular hallway fight scene crashing to a halt. Something that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s Jessica Gao hoped would subvert expectations.

“We have to keep reminding people that this is Jen’s show, this is She-Hulk’s show,” she explained. “Everything in the show is like, how can we either subvert a trope or defy expectations or ground something in funny reality. That’s kind of the ethos of the show. So of course, it was just natural for this show, being so meta, that we would acknowledge and tease the classic Daredevil hallway fight. But then, of course, we would have to undercut it with our girl, She-Hulk.”

The Return of Daredevil Has Divided Marvel Fans

Marvel Studios

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law brings Daredevil into the fray after his alter ego, Matt Murdock, takes on a case that conflicts with Jennifer Walters. Now sporting a yellow-and-red suit, returning star Charlie Cox slips expertly back into the role, and while Marvel fans are happy to see him back, certain changes have divided opinion. Mostly due to the jokes.

“One of the saddest things about Daredevil’s return in ‘She-Hulk’ is that this is the worst a live action Daredevil has been written since 2003 and yet is somehow still the most well written character in the entirety of the show,” said one viewer. “This episode was really good, we got to see the aggressive side of She-Hulk. But, I didn’t liked a few things they did with Daredevil. The 3 seasons made him a legend, but in this episode he was almost helpless & so vulnerable against a newbie,” said another.

With the negative must come the positive, however, with a more favorable take saying, “Matt in She-Hulk feels like if they took Netflix DD, poured a bit of oldschool Stan Lee swashbuckler Daredevil into him, and then let em rip.”

Following his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Charlie Cox will reprise the role for Daredevil: Born Again, which is due for release on Disney+ in Spring 2024.
