Daredevil star Charlie Cox has suggested that the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, will begin with much more of a clean slate than previously expected. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Cox even says that Daredevil: Born Again could revisit old ground, retelling certain stories that were already depicted in the Netflix show. Including the character’s origin.
“And, in a way, what’s great about that is that we potentially get to tell some of the stories over and over again in the same way that they do in the comics, you know. Every now and again, they start back at the beginning of Murdock’s journey as a little boy and they tell the whole origin story again. So maybe we’ll get to do that, I don’t know.”
While he does add that he does not know exactly what the plan is for Daredevil: Born Again, Cox certainly sounds open to the idea of re-examining and retelling storylines that have already been explored during his time as Matt Murdock. Of course, comic books do this all the time, constantly rebooting characters and telling similar tales over and over again. But will this approach work in a live action television series?

Cox has previously stated that Daredevil: Born Again is not a fourth season of the Netflix series. Not exactly anyway. “It is a Season 1, it is not Season 4, so it is a whole new thing,” Cox said back in September. “Which I think is the way to go. If you are going to do it again, do it differently.”

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Has Now Entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Marvel Studios
Bringing back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil is something that Marvel fans quickly called for following the cancelation of the Netflix show back in 2018. Well, Marvel Studios clearly listened, with Cox reprising the role of lawyer Matt Murdock in last year’s Phase 4 outing, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The actor has now appeared as his superhero alter ego Daredevil, and sporting a brand-new suit, in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. While the depiction of Daredevil in the MCU has been somewhat mixed, in large part thanks to the character making jokes and jokes being made at the character’s expense, fans have all agreed that is great to see Cox back under the horned mask.
One thing that Charlie Cox has assured is that, while Daredevil is likely to become a little more light-hearted now that he is in the MCU, he will not become slapstick. “I don’t think that would work. Not over the course of our entire season. Not with this character. I don’t think it’s necessarily truthful enough to the source material for it to really work,” the actor said earlier this year.
Not much is yet known about the direction of Daredevil: Born Again, but Marvel Studios has revealed that it will run for a mammoth 18 episodes. After appearing as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and as Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Charlie Cox will next appear in the Disney+ series, Echo, with Daredevil: Born Again due to follow. Daredevil: Born Again is expected to be released in Spring 2024.
