Jonathan Majors Has Teased His Portrayal of Warrior Kang
Marvel Studios
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will mark the debut of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror. However, Majors has already appeared in the MCU as He Who Remains during the final moments of the Disney+ series, Loki. While He Who Remains warns of the impending doom that will come from unleashing his variants, Loki’s variant, Sylvie, could not help but carry out her revenge.
First appearing in The Avengers #8 way back in 1964, Kang was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and will be far more than another one-and-done Marvel villain when he lands on the big screen. Now that the madness of the multiverse has been unshackled, Kang the Conqureror is all set to become the next great villain of the MCU, with the time-traveling, multiversal adversary facing off with the Avengers in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. A future appearance that does not bode too well for Ant-Man…
Majors has teased his portrayal of Kang, describing the character as a warrior. “It was the character and dimensions of Kang [that drew him to the role.] And the potential that it had. I thought, ‘I’ll take a chance on that,'” Majors explains. “He is the warrior version of Kang, so there was a focus on what that warrior would look like who’s been around through the ages and has developed every type of combat skill. It was about making him look like an imposing figure.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 17, 2023, as the first film of Phase Five of the MCU. The rest of Phase Five will be comprised of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade on the big screen, alongside What If…? Season 2, Secret Invasion, Echo, Loki Season 2, Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again on the small screen.
