Fans of the Sicario franchise have eagerly been anticipating news about the third installment, but their hopes may have been dashed with actor Josh Brolin‘s recent update on the project’s progress. In an interview with Variety, Brolin shared his concerns over the delay of Sicario 3. As a returning cast member who played CIA officer Matt Graver in the previous two films, Brolin explained why the film has yet to be made despite the high demand from fans. According to the actor, the process of bringing the third movie to life has been challenging, and even though the first two films were financial successes, it’s still difficult to get the third film off the ground.

“Sicario 3, we’ve been trying to get that right and get that going, but why hasn’t it happened? How long can you wait? A tough movie to get made even though the two made money, and people are asking about it all the time.”
Sicario, released in 2015, was a critical and commercial success. Directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Emily Blunt as FBI agent Kate Macer, the film told the story of an obscure government task force involved in the ongoing war against drugs and the Mexican cartel. The sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, premiered in 2018 and continued the story of Matt Graver and Alejandro Gillick. Directed by Stefano Sollima, the film received mixed reviews from critics but still garnered interest from fans of the franchise. With news of a third film in the works, titled Sicario: Capos, fans were excited to see where the story would go next. While Brolin’s update is disappointing, the movie industry is unpredictable, and there’s always a chance that the project could be resurrected in the future.

Josh Brolin on What Drew Him to Play Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
Josh Brolin is a Hollywood A-lister known for his impressive range and ability to inhabit complex characters on-screen. While he’s played a variety of roles over the years, his portrayal of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be one of his most memorable. In a recent interview with Variety, Brolin reflected on his experience playing the Mad Titan, revealing that he was initially hesitant to take on the role due to his aversion to superhero movies. However, he was ultimately drawn in by the depth of information provided in the character “bible”, and the opportunity to work with the talented Russo brothers.
“First of all, we had no idea it was going to be that big or that meaty of a part — it was more like a cameo type thing. I was doing “Everest” in London and they dropped off the huge bible of Thanos and what he meant in the Marvel Universe and his trajectory and his relationship with Lady Death and all this stuff. And I thought it was really interesting, but I had turned down a few really big films of those types of films, not Marvel, but other people. And I just didn’t have a real interest in doing it. I just felt like that was going down a road that I just wasn’t particularly interested in. So this came and I was like, this is interesting and it was the bible that did it. I was reading through volumes and volumes of information and I thought, this is really cool and I love how in depth this has gone.” Brolin revealed.
Brolin worked closely with the Russo brothers, who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, to develop his portrayal of Thanos. They conducted tests to help Brolin relax and be more natural in his performance, which allowed him to fully embody the character and make him believable on screen. Despite not typically enjoying superhero movies, Brolin loved playing Thanos. He enjoyed the challenge of developing such a complex character and relished the opportunity to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
