Fast X Director Compares the Movie to Surprising Marvel Studios Hit

After giving life to one of the most popular heroes of DC Comics, Jason Momoa will change course in Fast X to play the main villain. Dante, his character in the tenth installment of the Fast & Furious saga, is the antithesis of Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and quite a challenge for the actor.

Dante’s story goes way back to the franchise’s past, specifically to the fifth installment, after Dom and his family dethroned a mafia empire in Brazil. What they did not know was that the son of the villain on duty witnessed his father’s fall and had been planning his revenge for years.

As is to be expected with this story, Momoa’s character represents a considerable threat to the main group, and he will seek to separate them to achieve what no one has been able to do so far: make Dom fall and pay. It will not be an easy task, but there is no doubt that Dante will try to leave lasting consequences in this film and surely in the next one, which will be the final mainline Fast & Furious movie.

Universal Pictures

While promoting the movie, director Louis Leterrier spoke to Empire. He compared Fast X to an interesting Marvel Studios hit, Captain America: Civil War, which had fans choosing between taking Steve Rogers or Tony Stark’s side:

“It’s really the beginning of the end, the beginning of a giant war between the two factions of light and darkness. People will switch sides. The audience will have to make decisions — who are you following?”

Leterrier took over the role of Justin Lin after Lin left the project due to creative differences. The film is written by Lin and Dan Mazeau, with Lin still attached as a producer.

Along with Momoa and the return of Diesel, Fast X will bring back Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, John Cena, Jason Statham, and Scott Eastwood. In addition, Daniela Melchior, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, and Alan Ritchson joined the franchise for the first time.

Fast X is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 19. The last movie in the main saga will arrive next year, but several spin-offs are being considered by Universal Pictures.
